Hi Hetal, how are you.
seems you are online right now, just saw your reply.i have a quick question reg cradle cap.
does it happen for kids who have astma or allergy in family history.
i dunt have allergy or asthma in my family history but my first child had a severe eczema due to cradle cap.
he recovered after 1 year but it was very itchy and i always used to feel sad looking at him. he has a very beautiful skin now but at dat time, i felt miserable taking his snaps.
now i am pregnant again and i am afraid wat if my second child wil have it. sumtimes i am not able to sleep coz of dis.i dunt understand y these gyn dunt clear our doubts.they take hefty fees n still the answers are vague.i asked my ob and she replied me dat itz difficult to say.huh !

Hetal, what are the chances that my second child will have it. i read dat it happens when hormones pass thru placenta but wat can i do to prevent it.iz there anything like exercises or any type of medicine etc can be done to avoid dis from nowitsefl.
any tip reg dis will be very helpful.
FM,if you are reading my message.
selsun blue worked for my son cradle cap but for his skin rashes, i tried everything dat my ped gave. nothing worked so i visited skin doctor. but all in vain. i got tired of trying all medicines and ointments. all it did was making it worst so i stopped everything.
i was applying a normal eucerin cream which i was doing from birth and i stopped all other ointments.after dat during his first birthday, the rashes started reducing & in couple weeks they went away. i dunt know what worked but it was my experience wid it.my ped had told me before dat they will go away on itz own & i shuld not worry.i can understadn your problem, itz painful to see our lil ones in pain. dunt worry, your baby will be fine.

1. cradle cap has nothing to do with family history of eczema, skin probs or asthma/allergies !
But, its quite likely that if you have a family history of ne of these, the child will tend to have severe eczema thn what he normally is expected to have and that his rashes or itching might prolong abit longer.

2. in this case, esp where there is family history of such probs,,its quite likely that these rashes, itching might trigger to much more severe eczema and child might suffer from other skin probs..

3. if you have family histry, thn its quite likely that these rashes will come n go, during every season change or whenever there is a diff in humidity levels, temp levels or when you are visiting high allergy zone, or places like high pollution, pollen, etc exists.the time they will stay n recover will be more compared to other kids..it dpends on many factors.

4. since you dont have allergy or asthma or skin probs in your family history its unlikely at your end that your child will have ne probs related to this eczema in future.

and lets say even if it triggers, the recovery is much more faster compared to those kids who have it in thr history..

5.let me give you a straight example. i dont have ne such history, so my kids recovered from it pretty early and with practicng proper hygne conditions nd regular care, they were out of it ! it also matters how fast the treatment was given..if given at once, the recovery is faster, the complications are lesser and child doesnt get a chance to be restless ! its that simple,so whenever such a outbreak happens, start practcng proper hygne, visit a dr and avoid trying ne remedies, you dont want to keep draggng the issue until your child suffers n you lose your mental peace.

6. chances that your second child will have a skin problem dpends on family history, but chances that your second child will have cradle cap(even though its the dermititis,,why itz caused is a diff reason), it depends on how your last phase goes. mostly if you dilate faster(from 1cm to 10cm right away), its quite unlikely that your body will not get a chance to pass on these hormones to your child and its quite likely that yourr child will not have a cradle cap !
however, it dpends on child own skin type also. if its dry like in fm case and too oily like in my case, its quite likely that a lil dose of hormone will affect the child !

7. science has not been succsfful enough to find out when exactly it happens or what causes this, so there was no cure for it and because this is body internal function that happens and the time of it is unknown yet so we cant help much.or may be its out of my reach to know about this further...

8. i would just pray to have a healthy child, thats enough, cradle cap has nothing to do with mental or physical health of baby !! if it makes you feel better, samarth was 8.8 lbs, with 10 apgar score and a perfect hand, eye cordnation,(when you move a finger before his eyes, he would move his eyes and was able to grab my hand nd hold it from the next day he came home from hospital) and his head is steady since birth nd his eyes were wide open in 3 days after birth ! may b its because he was a post due date baby or whatever but we all, including my dr were taken by surprise.

the only thing, he is having is cradle cap rashes(Cradle cap is gone), on and off.today they arent seen at all but i expect them to see again whenever there are fav factors.

also to mention that when your child will become young, like teen or at the stage of maturity like 20years etc, its quite likely that he will have pimples or rashes/acmes during these years but that time since his skin will become very mature, you will find enough alternatives or treatments to handle it.

for some severe issues of cradle cap, alternative medicine/homeopath has also given results so if it strikes again, homeopath is safe enough to give a try (atleast it wont harm the baby skin ) compared to ne other home remedies.

good luck to you and take care..
njoy your pregnancy.

RE: Eczema concern
Hello,

I had a similar query a few months ago concerning eczema occuring in toddlers. As far as I know, it can be due to a varrying number of factors and common foods that end up causing the condition in 1-2 year old toddlers.

In my research I found this article really helpful in addressing the problem:
