Eating Problems:How much milk a 4 Yr old should take?!!
2004-03-22
Name: Sugi

Hello all,
My 4 year old daughter is not that good in eating. She wants to eat all no-spicey, bland foods all the time that too her choices are very limited. So basically a picky eater!!

But she likes milk. So, I give her milk 1 9oz in the night before bedtime hoping that will compensate her missing nutrients. Also I give her milk once in the morning and once in the evening. Not full 9 ozes she drinks at these times on all days. But she takes almost the full cup.

Now as she started getting some skin problem (she had ezcema in her infant period and she became alright after she turned 1.25 yrs old), I am thinking that may be I should cut her milk intake. But I wasn't told by any doctor to do so. Since I read some topics which talks about the connection between the dairy products and eczema I am worrying about this. I am actually confused as her milk is the only choice to get strength. She also loves cheese and curd. Please advice.

Subject:  Dear Sugi,

Eczema is a form of allergy and if your daughter is allergic to milk,it could be the cause. Milk does have nutrients but milk being essential for strength is not true. Dieticians recommend milk for weight loss even for adults so if you are concerned about your daughter's weight, milk is the wrong food. Give her the easily available western food which is very bland or prepare a small portion of the food bland just for her. Milk will reduce her appetite for other foods, so gradually reduce milk and see her appetite increase. Fresh salad without dressing is also bland, so try this. This is really nutritious.

The most common prob every mom faces is their children dont eat well ... In ur case i think she is consuming more of milk which keeps her stomach filled thruout ..U can avoid milk in the evenings instead try fruit juices ..Milk also makes her acidic ...
Try soups or khichadi (by mashing all kinda veg ) ...
Do get back how she is !!!! All the best
