Hi,
The best thing for a child of any age is uncinditional love and acceptance from parents. I have two of my own. Often parents tend to be over focussed on appearances and sacrifice the child's sense of self and confidence suffers. Being asked to recite and sing in front of strangers, being forced to share toys when s/he does not want to and discussing the child's `drawbacks' openly inhis her presence are some of the things that parents do without realising that this little person is absorbing all these critical comments and getting marks left on his /her psyche. Also one must refrain from comparing one's child with anybody else's. It does not matter that so and so's child can read at three and can recite the alphabet backwards! What is important if a well adjusted child who is happy being himself and is confident to interact at his own pace. And do we really consider this, the best schools may not really be the best ones for the child, it is more a status symbol for the parents than anything else.
Try and get a book by Barbara Coloroso `Kids are worth it' also check out the website of the same name.
Look at the child as a child not as an image of imperfection waiting for direction. All will be well with you and the little one!
Best wishes

The authorities tend to fuss over the first school interview. Just do not take it very seriously. Do not force your kid to learn. Just let him be on his own. Send him in the teachers room with a light heart, as if he is going for playing. That is the only solution.

I will warn you against introducing your one and a half year old kid to a playschool. He is too young, and an interview is just out of question. So, even if you want to enagage him in a playful school activity, keep away the formalities.

Actually I agree with Kim. My child also joined school before he turned two. Kindly do not repeat this mistake. And if you have to send him to a playschool, see to it that the child is taught in a fun way. Not very seriously, Certainly not through a rigourous interview.

Thanks Anuradha, kim and mommy. I was happy to know your response and experiences. I feel that a school interview will be too much at this age. But will keep in touch for more info.
