Problems in School:which class for my daughter
2003-08-26
Name: somnath de

my dayghter's date of birth is 05-01-2000. she started playschool in 2002 and was a very enthusiastic and eager child thoroughly enjoying her playschool.we recently relocated to new bombay .we were planning to put her in nursery as she had as yet done only one year of play school.the school here in new bombay specified that a child who is 3 years as on april of that year is eligible for junior kg and one who is 2 years is eligible for nursery.because of this and the principal saying so ,my daughter got admitted to junior kg in july this year.
in junior kg there is far too much of writing, both english and hindi.my daughter is very good in all things oral and also at recognising and remembering.she is somehow averse to the very idead of writing and more particularly to writing hindi.her teacher says she doesnt sit quitely in the class and is most of time moving around.
we and everybody else including her teacher says she is very bright.she has a rapidly expanding vocabulary.
her aversion to writing and the general lack of regimented discipline as required in school has made the teacher send us a note that if we wish we may put her in nursery,as the load and pace of writing requirements are going to speed up considerably now in jr kg with regular exams.this school doesnt have exams in nursery.
we are perplexed and at a loss to come to decision . we understand that our tying to make her write is trauamatic for all of us as learning a new skill should be enjoable for the child which is not the case.
would like help, advice suggestions and opinons.

Dear Somnath,
You are in a tough dilemma, we have a kid in same age group and a similar situation happened with us. What I feel is that you should not worry what the social relatives and friends think. You should think what is best for ur child. There is no point putting pressure on the kid to 'learn to write', dont force, let nature take its own course. If ur child is 6 months behind others, so what? is the world going to stop?...let her enjoy...
