my four months old daughter is always putting her fingers in her mouth. SOmetimes both hands in her mouth. I am worried may be she will get some infection. Should i give her some teethers ? or is it too premature? how to discourage this habit? if i make her wear any mittens she starts crying and she bites the cloth. please can anybody give me some ideas.

many options:
1. give teethers/cool piece of lauki to chew on !

2. its not premature, babies do this to soothe themselves from ichtng caused by gums which are at work pushing his teeth hard to come out,,,all this starts from as early as 2months and onwards...it means in soon 2-3months, your baby might get a teeth...dpnding on his later grwoth...

3.applying orajel or ne such teething soother will also help.

4. cut your baby nails regulary and make her wear mitten,,sincw its not helping it means she is teething ,,,other check on her diaper, her feeding,,try to feed her, change her, talk to her..some kids do this to get away from stranger anxty or cover thr frustration... which they get even if mother is around,,as this is just the right age for them to understand \" i want to be with mom\" all the time...pick her up,,soothe herr,,give her some teether toy to play..it will soothe himm !

lauki is indian gaurd..often used in sambhar,,its light green, long and its halwa just like carrots,can be made..hope i knew some other description ! you can alternatvly give your child to chew a cold piece of long carrot...
get the teethers that are sterilized water filled..they come in various sizes,and right now tht your child is 4months,,get the ones that are small in size and the ones that have small rim,,that a small hand can hold nicely..rings also are easy to hold,,get the smallers ones with diff shapes,,m not sure where you are located,,but in US, you will get them in babysection..some teether books are also available,has teethers hang in the corner of the cloth books !
you dont need to sterilze it,,just wash it with warm soapy water,which is enough,,throw them in dishwasher basket, if you have dishwasher basket in your dishwasher...or just wash it with warm soapy water...thats enough !

thank you very much for your suggestions. i want to ask you what is a lauki? i am confident that she is not anxious or frustrated. if she gets hold of her blanket she will bite that. it is not only fingers. even if i hold her she starts biting softly mu hands or my dress. from what you say i think she should be teething. if i have to give soothers what kind should i choose and i think i should be sterilising it also, if i am right....
