My daughter is 4 months old now. She was a preterm baby born in 33 weeks. Now her weight is 5.3 in the fourth month. its a gr8 improvemnet. My problem is I noticed lately that she is been making bubbles and spitting out a lot lately. Saliva is just keeping on flowing from her mouth. It may be just after she had her medicines or milk or may b at out times. WHat should I do about it? Is it some problem? or is it common in babies spitting? Pls help.. as she is preterm I am extra concerned. Hetal replied. your baby is drooling,,one more sign of teething,,,gums are getting hard,,and in order to provide enough moisture to the gums, the salive is produced in large amounts,,from mouth..drooling serves to help make the teethin process more BEARABLE for your baby..
later, excess saliva might accumulate in your baby mouth,,keep drippng down from either his mouth or it will drip down to the throats,,and might settle in your baby chest,,leading it to light cough or cold...
whenever he drools out of the mouth,,keep wiping,,whenver he drools make sure to keep him asleep elevated,,this will avoid this saliva to settle in throat or nasal passages,,preventing cold !
offer him soothing water teethers/cool teetherrs,,or some teether rings,,applying gels like orajel(in US), or ne teething tablets that your dr feels safe to give,,ask for it..
it should help your baby to stop drooling..
excess saliva goes off the body,,so water actually goes off,,so keep your baby well hydrated !
