Hi Sandhya

Thanks a lot for the info..By the way..a manual treadmill is a cheaper version of the
treadmills u will find in US gyms..which has a belt but there is no adjustment available for
changing inclination or speed anything.All u have to do is put a lot of effort and get the
belt beneath ur feet rolling and maintain ur speed.The minute u stop the belt ceases and
again u have to repeat putting effort...Thats it about manual treadmills..But it has display
to see the speed u r walking at and also the time..
But I have few questions to ask u
1) Is it ok to do ur treadmill for 30 minutes right from the first day u join gym ( i start
huffing and puffing after 10 mins)
2) can U pls explain the optimum speed we need to walk and also cycle during the warm up and
cool and also the optimum speed to engage in the inbetween duration( ex : for 30 mins walk,
speed to be maintained for the inbetween 20mins)

Note:
Iam sorry to ask u so many questions and nag u all the time...But u have no idea what type
of service u r doing...motivating people like me who r ignorant abt the fitness stuff.
My heart fills with lots of gratitude for u the minute I see ur diligent answers..

Hey Raashi,
Thanks for all the kind words you said about me and honestly i am more than happy helping out. If i find the persons queries are genuine then i' d like to tell them what i know. I am not an expert but have been through the phase of not being fit and making my own mistakes getting fit. So, i try to say what i know so someone out there doesn' t have to go through the same mistakes that i did. All of us can learn a thing or two from one another and i totally don' t mind learning.

anyway, now in answer to your questions:
1. what is the optimum speed on the treadmill.

ans : anything that makes you heart beat faster which is more than 86 beats/min i think is normal. But 210 minus your age is the max speed you can achieve doing any kind of workout, if you don' t have any medical conditions. I sometimes reach 176 easily. But it is totally upto your personal capacity you want to go to. Always remember to listen carefully to your body. If it says stop then STOP.

2. Is it ok to do ur treadmill for 30 minutes right from the first day u join gym ( i start
huffing and puffing after 10 mins)

ans : Never ever start working out at max on the first day itself. What is generally recommended is start with a 20 min workout(with 5 min cooling and warmup) and then week after week, keeping adding another 5 min. Remember \" slow and steady wins the race\" .

3. optimum speed for workout.

ans : remember the heart rate. Let me give you an example. When i run at a 3.3 incline, say 6.2 miles/hr of speed for about 20 mints. Then i reach a optimum heart rate of 165 say after 7 mints(100 calories) and then keep it at for the next 13 mints. You don' t have to necessarily do it this way. And when you feel tired, take a break. Drink some water and get back and finish your workout.

Initially i had to take breaks for every 7 mints....now i can easily go for 20 and not feel a thing. This happened over the past 2 yrs. So, i did not reach at the magic number in a week or 2 but over the span of 2 yrs. So, take it easy and push your body a little every day. Listen to your body and be kind to it and it will do wonders for you.
