I AM 22 YEARS OLD, MOTHER OF 2. I' M 5' 4 AND WEIGHT 98 POUNDS. HOW CAN A GAIN WEIGHT? I' M TIRED OF BEING SKINNY, I' VE TRIED EVERYTHING AND NOTHING WORKS. I THOUGHT AFTER HAVING MY KIDS I WOULD GAIN WEIGHT... BUT NOTHING. HELP!

are you looking to gain weight or looking for a contraceptive method? My general rule of thumb is don' t do any drugs if you don' t need them. yes, it is true that when on a BCP a lot of women tend to gain weight. since BCP mess with the hormones in your body, it might have that side effect. I wouldn' t know anything about it, since i' ve never had an opportunity to be on one. If you are looking for a BCP then i suggest that you talk to your OB_GYN. I am sure you might know one since you gave birth to a baby. all the best.

if i were in your shoes then i' d consider myself lucky, but since you really want to gain weight, i guess you are not really happy with your situation. Let' s see if i can help you a bit there:

The reason for not gaining weight:

1. your high metabolism. A avg women' s metablic rate is very until she reaches 25 and then she' d have to work extra to keep it that way. Since you had a baby when 20, which is really young, you were able to lose any weight that you gained due to your high metabolic rate.

My advice would be for you to wait until 25 and see what happens. I know it' s another couple of yrs away but time flies in no time :)

2. You probably don' t want to hear this, but being skinny has its own advantages. And you never know when you do gain weight, what places in your body that it is going to end up. You might not after all like where it ends up. so, think about it.

3. Finally to gain weight, try to eat a lot of protien and try to do weights(dumb bells etc..). When you do weight training, your appetite generally tend to increase and you start consuming more calories. Say after a while(1 yr of weight training) you stop, then your appetite will not decrease, but you would have slowed down your calorie burn but stopping to workout. In this scenario you would tend to gain a lot of weight. That' s why you might notice that a lot of weight lifters when training tend to be fit but when they are off training tend to put on lots of weight. Hope this helps.
