Body and Fitness:Waist Belt
2007-08-21
Name: worried wife

My husband is 35. Offlate he has gained weight which is showing at his belly. He is lazy about joining the Gym or going for a morning walk. His waist girth is rising.

I was thinking for a waist belt to keep his tummy in place which looks very odd compare to his body. (He appears to be carrying a child, LOL) Please advice if waist belt, normally used by people having waist pain, will help?

Also I have heard that there are some corsets available, male exclusively to suit the male body to overcome this issue. Please suggest.

worried wife, Have your ever heard of Newtons laws of physics particularly about redistribution of mass?

Well, that' s what happens when you use a weight belt. It helps to compress a certain portion of your body thereby pushing the weight(mass) into other parts. So, if you think that a bulging tummy is your only problem and don' t mind the weight gain in other parts then go ahead and try it out. Remember that men rarely tend to gain weight in the bottom portion of their bodies due to muscular legs etc..

The only thing that could be achieved using a waist belt is to relieve the pressure on the small of your back to carry the paunch. There can never be any weight or paunch reduction due to a girdle. So, quit kidding yourself for the same.

Now, weight reduction and leading a healthy lifestyle are personal choices that a person has to make for themselves. They could never be forced. Insulting someone or making the other conscious about their figure is not going to achieve you much. If you are really worried about your husband' s weight then try asking him gently as to what is going on with him? any work pressures or any such reasons for him to slack off. Try your part in keeping him healthy. Lay off all the sweet snacks and cook sensibly at home to make him feel better. Stop talking about his Paunch and try to concentrate on his +ves. Once he notices the effort you are making in making him feel better then i am sure he will come around to talking about his weight/paunch more comfortably.

There are only two ways to achieve a healthy life. Eat healthy and keep moving. There are no shortcuts to this.

I didn' t mean to offend you in any manner, but noticed a underlying cynicism in your message to be direct about what i said. I am sorry if i hurt you in any manner. Hope it helps.Sandya.
