Working Mother:about my 2.5 yr old son / pls do advise
2006-09-15
Name: anu

Hi ! I have a 2.5 yr old son. I feel he has speaking and eating problems. I request you to pls take time out to read and give suggestions.
Speaking : He is still not able to completely understand what I say to him and though is talking non-stop the whole day, very little of it makes sense. He doesn't even understand \";Naam kya hai ?\"; Lately he has started associating \";naam\"; with his name and tells his name everytime he hears \";naam\"; irrespective of whether we are asking his, papa or mumma's name. I was completely okay with his slow speech as every child is different but lately seeing his peer group I've started worrying. Any suggestions ?
Eating : He's a real fussy eater. He won't eat anything unless he is preoccupied with something - t.v. / computer / new game / water etc. We have to show him the T.V to really make him eat. And he just doesn't chew. He'll take anything in semi solid form but will just not chew. I tried giving him chips and stuff, but he chews / sucks them and then spits it out - no swallowing anything that has been chewed. He just doesn't seem to be interested in food. I 've tried giving attractive food stuff but in vain. Could anyone pls suggest how should I get my son to atleast taste food and then decide whether he likes it or not !
Would really appreciate any suggestions.

anu,
pl do not panic.may be he is just a picky eater. but plz watch for certain other thingslike given below:
doeshe make good eye contact?
does he initiate play with u/other people? especially with peer group
is he able to make & understand non verbal communication ?
does he make appropriate and imaginative play with toys?
If he is able to do all this above not to worry
Do try to introduce variety foods.Stop feeding him infront of TV. Make a practice of seating him at table and serving food especially with other family members.See what type of foods he prefer most.Give him that first, but give him a smaal qty of other type of foods which he doesnot like and persuade him to eat.
Plz watch out for the itmes listed above. If you see atleast three go to a development physician

hope this helps
sorry i saw ur mail only today
If he is able to d
