Name: Shweta

Hello All,
My name is Shweta and I am due on 14 Dec.
As a first time mom I am very excited and scared at the same time.

I have some nausea and vomiting though it happens mostly due to strong smells... cant cook vaghar/chaunka smells are unbearable, cant go to a restaurant cant even bear strong smells from takeput food.. Does this happen to anybody else?????? How long does this last???

I live in Portsmouth New Hampsire, anybody living around here??? Dont know a single desi here.

I am new to this website and would like to be included in your group.

Thanks
Shweta

The best thing that works for my morning sickness however is a RASGULLA! It beats the nausea most of the times! Try it!

Thanks Guys...
Makes me feel better tht there are more people in the same boat...

Cha : Third time wow! must be great! How r your other 2 taking it and how do u manage with them ? How old r they ?
I agree Indian food seems to bring out the worst attacks.. no pyaaz-tamatar gravies fr me....And as for onion in my husbands diet .. strict no-no.. Roti and wheat bread also affect me...Can keep parathas down though that works

Chinky : I wish I was in India too missing my family terribly... but I think the smell problem wud have been worse ;-) different food smells from every apartment in the Building...whoo!!

SS : Is there any smell in particular tht does'nt bother u? Mint and eucalyptus seem to be helping me ( dab some on to a hanky or tissue.. just figured it out)
In a way its nice tht I cant cook my husband (poor fellow) is trying to learn to cook he didnt know a thing before this.. how r u managing? where in the US?

yeah. sandalwood helps me a great deal and i keep some near me all the time. i will try what you said abt mint and eucalyptus as well .. thanks :)

i live in california.

we had the most trying time this past month with my health and my husband was the one who tried to do everything .. poor him ... but it was hard with me being so sick 3-4 times a day sometimes ... and we were living off juice, crackers, whole wheat bread, fruits and milk.

i am in my week 10 now and trying to cook atleast one meal a day .... just praying and taking one day at a time ....

how are things with you ? have you had your first ultrasound yet ?

take care. ss

Hi Shweta,

Congratulations.

Morning (afternoon and night)sickness is the worst. Luckily, I have only a medium/mild case of it. However, when it strikes it is so sickening! During my first pregnancy Indian food was my enemy! I couldn't even visit my in-laws house around dinner time...and if my husband ate over there I would feel ill when he came back home because the smell of food was lingering on him! It was horrible! In addition, during my first pregnancy I worked in NYC, and there are some pretty offensive smells in the streets, especially in the morning, so that was quite unbearable. Actually my first pregnancy was the extreme side of everything, second pregnancy was a lot better. Hoping the 3rd will be a blast!

I live in New Jersey.

Welcome! Hopefully your morning sickness will only be short-lived.

Love,
Cha!

Hi Shweta,
Congratulations & welcome :)
I am a first time mom-to-be as well and I can completely empathize with what you are going through.
I am experiencing identical symptoms as yours and to answer your query - yes, it happens to lots of women and it is perfectly normal.
In fact for the past month, I haven't been able to cook at all and have great difficulty eating. I live in the U.S.
My doctor tells me that we should feel better once we are past week 12.
So, hang in there and I hope you feel better soon ! Good luck.

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
