Changing only one thing!!...make your husband read my message....Good one...LOL. But remember i started my schedule when my baby was barely 4 months old. I used to pump my milk too 3 times at work and still managed this very gruelling shchedule( i breastfed my daughter for an year)....there were really moments when i really wanted to quit going to workout and rest...but i never gave up.
I was barely a month out of pregnancy when my in-laws who were here for my delivery got on my case for me to lose the weight. I told them very clearly to back off and that i will do it on my own schedule. It was hard but i knew what needed to be done. My husband has been very-very supportive of my goals which i truly-truly appreciate.
One thing i' ve learnt after 2 kids is that i cannot do it all by myself, so now i enlist all the support i can get. Not everybody can work in your style or with as much energy and we women have to accept this part. You need to delegate work according to the skill set of the person who is helping you out. We do this all the time at work, so we should do it more at home. I' am sure you have a MIL who is maybe above 60. She can take care of your crying kid, cut vegetables, sort the groceries etc.. See i take help even from my son. My kids make a lot of mess with all the toys strewn all over my place by the time it is for us to go to bed. So, i tell my son that he needs to put all the toys away before he can go to bed. I don' t help him at all, but wait for him to finish. I don' t carry his plates or cups for him, he does that himself. We mothers don' t have to become victims by trying to do it all by ourselves. We are not superwomen. We need to know our limitations in the energy dept. And we also need to stop feeling guilty for not being able to do it all by ourselves.
I tries being the victim and doing it all by myself with my first one, but you know what, it' s not worth it. Now i' am much more happy and peaceful when i was doing it all by myself. Now i feel all my family members are more involved in each others lives when we share responsibilities. So, delegate the work and conquer the home. You have the power to make it happen. It' s no rocket science. If i can do it anyone in this world can make it happen.
Again it was really nice talking to you. Good luck.

Well, for most part what you said is really true. I really wish there were 48 hrs in a day, so i can squeeze in all the things that i need to do for my family. But you know what, it ain' t gonna happen. So, we got to make the best use of what we got which is 24 hrs.
Alright, let' s see how i manage things. I cook everyday, have 2 kids ages 4 and 2. Don' t have any maids, so i do all the housework by myself. But and trust me this makes all the difference in the world, i have a grrrrrreat husband. He has his quirks like giving jhoota, not very clean or not caring enough when kids get hurt. But you know what, i' ve learned to live with it. When there is no choice, then you' ve got to make the best of what you have. I follow this to the core.
My day begins at 5:00AM. I make breakfast and lunch for the kids in the morning. Nothing fancy but rotis or puris etc..My daughter can' t do everything on her own, but i don' t take that long to her her ready. Barely 10 mints. I brush her teeth around 5:00AM and feed her milk while she is half asleep. She drinks better with no distractions. So, when she is awake then all i need to do is change her diaper, clean her face(no bath in the morning), apply cream and change her clothes. Get her sox, shoes and jacket on and she is ready to go. I feed her breakfast in the car which she takes to her day care also and finishes it there.
My son who is 4 is very independent in many ways. But makes a big fuss to wake up in the morning...so, i basically put up with all his nakhras in the morning. Maybe for about 10 mints until he is awake. We go down and microwave his milk and make him sit in front of TV until he is done with his milk. While he is doing that i get the breakfast and lunch ready for the kids. Empty the dishwasher, pack my lunch, wash the veggies and pack my salad. All this takes exactly 15-20 mints. My son wakes around 7:30AM...his getting ready takes 10 mints. another 20 for everything else and another 5 for my daughter. You do the math. The time now will be 8:10AM and all of us are out the door and in the car by 8:12AM. Time is very critical by this time since my son' s curb side closes by 8:30AM and the time to travel between my home and school is 17 mints(exactly). Drop my son by 8:30 and then drop my daughter(another 15 mints) and i' am here at work by 9:15AM.
Now i' am here at work until 4:30PM ( I cover the hours by working on the weekends since i get to work from home). At gym by 5:00PM...40 mints of cardio, 10 mints of weights(every alternate day) and another half hour of yoga. All done and the time now is 6:30PM...another 10 mints to home and by the time i reach home, my kids and my dear hubby always greet me with a smile. They are clean, with their baths all done. I don' t care for the rest of the house(usually it is in shambles)..start cooking right away, so the kids don' t have to wait until after 7:30- 8:00PM to eat food. Kids are usually done by 8:30PM, we eat our dinner and in bed by 9:30PM. All done.
My husband does grocery shopping for me since it is on his way back after picking up the kids. Its entertainment for the kids too. My husband goes to work very early(at 6:00AM - 4:00PM), so he picks up the kids.
The downside to this is that i get to see the crying, fussy faces while he gets to see the laughing, smiley faces. But kya karen. Remember we gotto make the best of what we got.
I do all the clean up(home, bathrooms) on the weekends. My son has started to help me out with dusting the place :):)...and i love him very much for helping me out. My husband takes care of all the work outside which is yards, plumbing, electricity etc..while i manage the insides. Since we know it is only us who has to manage everything, we know that we cannot complain if we don' t chip in our share. My husband understands this very well.
So, see what i mean by saying that if you want to be healthy then you need the cooperation from your entire family. And also remember, if the woman of the house falls sick or is not healthy then the house won' t run and there is no one, absolutely no one to help the woman. So, we really need to be in good health and shape to survive.
The reason why i wake up at 5:00AM is to read for an hour. I love this and this is my personal time from all the shor-sharaba. My gym, my reading and my family are the passions of my life. I keep my priorities straight and keep working towards my goals.
I don' t watch any TV and neither do i miss it. All i know is one day when i retire, i' ll have a hell a lot of catching up to do and with all the re-runs i know i' am not going to miss a thing :):)
so, that' s the raam kahani of my life. Hope it helps you in some way. Be happy. Good luck.
sandya replied. alright, brisk walking of 20mints/2 miles burns 200 cal. running will bump it up to another 100 cal for the same amt of time. If you visit a gym then the display panel on your cardio equipment will tell you how many cal you are burning.
Weight bearing exercises burn more calories but you build muscle by these exercises. Won' t lose weight much. So, really the ideal way to lose weight is to do cardio. Once you' ve lost all the weight that you want to, then you can switch to weight bearing exercises to tone up. Or you can combine them together if you have enough time in a day. Hope this helps.
sandya replied. Sowmya, to loose weight you need to burn more than you eat. So, start counting as to how much you are eating everyday. 3500 calories makes a pound and 2.2 lbs is one KG. So, do the math. Burning 290 cal a day is nothing. If you really want to see any significant results then start burning 800 to 1000 cal a day. OH! also losing more than a pound a week is not recommended. Loosing a KG a week means the faster you loose, the faster you' ll gain it all back. Not good. Aim for moderation. Good luck.

Make my hubby read your message!
lol.
I guess the problem at my end is everthing is on me. Also may be that the baby is still too small. She is still breastfed.
But one thing. My elder one is 4 yrs so there is a gap of 3+ yrs and managing them is still a hassle. You have managed kids with lesser age gap, so when ur daughter was born ur son must be just 2. Man its not easy to manage kids so small. So good job done.
Thanks for sharing the thoughts. I guess I have picked some learnings. Thanks so much.

thanks for the information sandya. This is something i was looking for. I need some more information.
You said you have 2 kids and you are a working person and you are not in India. Which means, 1) kids must be going to school and/or daycare something like that. 2) you dont have servants 3) everything needs to be managed by you and hubby
I have same situation but some changes - I am in india, my second kis is just 10m. My MIL stays with us and a maid looks after my baby when i am in office.
I wanted to know how do you manage things as getting time for gym was the toughest thing for me but i have managed it somehow. My mornings go in babycare who wakes up at 6 am, then her milk, susu potty and then attending her (in india we dont use diapers so changing her nappy is one all time job, then in india and big family like this things are not in our control so sometimes hubby/mil needs to be attended) and i get my elder kid ready for school. Maid cooks lunch for all. I feel baby his breakfast and then go to office. Evening 5-630 i go to gym and reach home by 7. Then my time goes again in baby care, her evening snacks and dinner feeding which is 1 hr each, some personal tasks of mine, and attending the elder kid. Hubby and MIL help very little. There are always so many tasks in house that both maid+me fall insifficient. That is primarily because non-coperation from mil and hubby for which nothing can be done. For eg, mil needs chatnis, achaars or invites guests or demands different dinner and such other things so maid is always busy when i am home.
U know I just love salads, i am a veggie and I eat salad soup wvwn in a hotel. But just dont get time to buy veggies, or even if i buy, when i cut it i need to cut it for whole family otherwise they feel bad. So all fresh salad veggies or fruits finish in 2 days. Buying in bulk is no option as it gets rotten. And i end up eating junk.
I cant ask maid as she is already tired.
On weekends, there are so many pending tasks, or there are guests, or invitations. My office is 8 30 to 5 30.
But if it is like this for me, there must be other condictions for u. Everything needs to be done by you there.
I wanted tips on how to manage time and things better.
I want primarily to control my diet and eat better. Where i live, we dont get very good veggies nearby. Then, i am not supposed to eat a list of common veggies and fruits due to some health problems.
I too want to eat salad in morning or evening. If you go to gym in morning, who makes kids ready for school, who bathes them, dresses them up, feeds them, their tiffins, their homework? If you cook in evening, who takes care of kids? Hubby? My hubby only attends the baby but if nappy needs to be changed or make her milk bottle or feed her snacks, then i need to do it. Moreover, i need to watch my hubby too as he tends to give " jhootha" to baby or doesnt mind if baby eats something fallen on floor (so many ppl in house so its v dirty).
Then general repairy in house-plumbing, furniture repair, cooler repair, laundry, getting dried clothes and folding them, setting washed utensils, straighten the house, there are so many tasks. The food needs to be cooked fresh always. The quantity is huge for my big family. I need to supervise cooking most times to make sure things are right.
Can u pls share some tips on how you manage?

working out an hour to hour 1/2 of cardio a day is plenty to loose atleast 900 cal. Here´ s what you do. Go for the more intense cross-training machines at your gym. These machines use your whole body for the workout. So, you tend to work a lot more muscles than if you were just running.
The machines that i use are called life-fitness machines and i burn 650 cals for 35 mints of workout at an intensity of 15. I burn about 18 cal/min at this level.
After this combine your workout with bicycle or running for another 20 mints. You are all done. Go and relax now for 15 mints. Do some streching exercises to get rid of the soreness or you can do some free weights. Solid 1.5 hours of workout.
Now remember, you also have to eat healthy b´ cos you are working out so much. You´ ll need plenty of energy to be working out this hard, so pick up lot of veggies, protien and fiber for your diet. Good luck and let me know how it all works out for you.
