Feeding:Introducing Water

Hi!
I have a three month old girl who I am breastfeeding as well as formula feeding. I was told by my doctor not to introduce water to the baby till she completes three months. I want to start now but am not sure how much to give and how to give it. I tried giving her water with the bottle but she refused and then gave trouble accepting milk in her bottle too...any ideas? Is it okay to use a spoon?
