Problems in School:My son does not write in the class
2008-08-01
Name: worried mother

Hi,
My six years old son is an energetic, intelligent kid. In KG, he did not have a lot of studies. He is in the first std now. I was shocked to see his notebooks soon after his school started. Most of his work is incomplete and his teacher complains about him not doing his work in the class. He writes for some time and then he is lost in his thoughts. Neone else has experienced this? or any suggestion in order to improve him?

Dear Mom,
before you panic - i' d suggest you do a couple of things - check your child' s eye sight check the place he sits in class- if its near a window and it distracts if its too far from the board if its at an angle and he has to strain himself to see.
talk to the teacher - what does he do when the kids are writing? are there distracting factors in the environment? can they be minimised? things like fancy pencils/ eraser/pencil box ?
you did mention that in the KG he did not write too much - is the work level and quantity too much in class 1 with no time to bridge the gap. if that is so - you need to be cautious- too much pressure on a child too early can make him hate school - and that would make things worse in the long run.
six years is too soon to put a child under pressure!
but at the same time - its the right time to understand what makes the child tick - and what switches him off! but you will need to keep cool- which is easier said then done!

all the best!
a mother and a teacher
