Hi, my 2 yr old daughter has been catching cold-cough very often. A doc suggested I get her immunized with a new vaccine for influenza that comes in 2 doses and prevents common cold and flu for 1 yr. Its new and used in US, UK. Has anyone in India given this to their kids? I want to know how safe this is, as no one has really found a cure for cold-cough and flu. Is it advisable to suppress these viruses...could it have adverse effects later on? Is it better to let kids get common cold and build immunity? Pls advise! Thanks.

Hi,
This is not the vaccine to prevent cold and cough. What my doctor told was, the kids who catch cold,caugh oftenly are very susceptible to get flu. To avoid this, docotors recommend this influenze vaccine. I got the first dose for my 2 Yr. old son last week. Even one of my friend has also got it for their kids. I don't think there is any harm in going with doctor's suggestion.

Hi,
We live in US, and flu vaccines are given here every year (Fall), but it's not for simple cough and cold. It's for Flu. Flu is virus related illness. Flu is different than cold and cough. It's much more serious than cold and cough.
