sorry for replying so late
i will find the post in the next few hours. You know the advice is still given by people around the globe. I personally have lost weight two times, and when i was in the process of losing weight, i researched all the facts, and since i am a med student, i sought alot of answers from the medical books too.
To understand why its not advisable to do anything in the morning, on empty stomach, you need to read the physiology of energy metabolism, and what the body uses as the first source of energy, and how carbs, fats, and proteins are stored in the body.
Carbs are stored via a long route into glycogen in the liver, and is readily converted into glucose, which is then used for energy production.
When you exercise on empty stomach, you dont have any glycogen, you start burning fats right away, which is good for losing fats, but bad for the body, because burning fat straight away, and burning fat all the time causes by products , which results in ketoacidosis, a very serious condition. So we need soem carbs to jump start the burning process, and let it lead to fats, cause even to burn the fats , we need a certain amount of energy, and that we can derive from carbs. Like you take 100 kcal from carbs in the morning, and exercise on it untill you burn 500kcal, this way you burn 100 kcal worth carbs, and 400kcal worth fat, which is safer i guess.
It doesnt matter if we consume less or more carbs, or fats and proteins, calories amount to calories. Excess carbs are stored as fat, so are proteins. So its based on the calorie system, it doesnt matter which food group you choose. Eliminating carbs, or going low on them wont really help in the long term, calorie control will.
Proteins are good, but not in excess, its around 1-2.5 grams per kilo of your bodyweight is enough, if you consume more, you have kidney problems. So i really dont encourage more proteins, but yes you need a minimum amount of it.
Proteins and carbs have the same amount of calories in each gram, around 4-5 , and each gram of fat has 9 calories.
While i worked in a weight loss center, i noticed that each state, and each sect of indian people have different menus, and we have to plan according to that, and we focused more on calorie control, and ofcourse low consumption of sugary and fatty foods.
Its always better to get your diet control plan revised by your dietician, because if you have any underlying health issues, or need different nutrition needs, you can get a custom made plan.
It is always better to have a healthy active lifestyle, you can avoid majority of the diseases by doing so.
Doing exercises on an empty stomach wont harm you much, infact i dont eat till later afternoon, but for alot of people it may result in various problems. Most of the people who are dieting suffer from heart problems and / or diabetes, which is why we need them not to be on an empty stomach.
Plus digestion and metabolism and energy consumption is at its highest in the morning, so eating something in the morning, raises your metabolism a bit along with exercising.
Breakfast should be heavy, lunch medium, and dinner scarce, as the day does by, metabolic rates reduces.
I hope this helped, if you have doubts, be free to ask.And keep up the good work.
