I had done a search on the net and I read you can use the saliva opk to detect early pregnancy, is that right? For the last 3 days I have gotten ferning on my opk and I am 11 days past ovulation. Others have told me that is true but I have my doubts about it. What have you heard? I know it will not detect HCG as the HPT does but can it still detect a pregnancy? I am having a debate with some of my girlfriends and I would really like to bring them a solid answer. I will be taking a HPT in 3 days as well, but I am really curious about the opk part! Thank you for the help

Dear L Singh,
Never heard that OPK are dual. OPK detect levels of Luteinizing hormone (LH) that's liberated prior to ovulation. While pregnancy is confirmed by tale tell hormone hCG. Not that I know some saliva OPK detects hCG.
I would have to turn your friends down. If they know some kit or something bring that to my attention as well, would love to educate myself with new inputs.

Take HPT in about 3 days, use first morning urine and if negative repeat test in 48 hours.
I would suggest EPT.

Do not get carried with such informations.
Pregnancy does not even begin two days after ovulation. The fertilization takes place in 12 hours from ovulation, if sperms are already there then just after releasing egg or else in 12 hours after ovulation when sperms are available.
The fertilized egg has to multiply to go through some embryonic stages before it can implant in your uterus. This usually takes 5-7 days from your actual ovulation. This means the hCG and Progesterone will start picking up after implantation. Estrogen is normal part of cycyle and hormone that's more involved in lining of uterus and helping FSH.

Do one favor read by yourself about subject or hear from experts. If one knew pregnancy 2 days after ovulation then it's not true because that's not even embryo stage.

Hope this helps sorting confusion.

Thank you for the prompt response. What I was told was that estrogen rises at ovulation, which causes the ferning. But they say estrogen rises if pg also, which would be detected. One girl says she got ferning and 2 days later a pos HPT. It is hard to believe everything all the time!
