Smita replied. hi nj,
i can totally empathise with u since i am facing the same problem.my 2.2 year old daughter weighs just 9.8 kg.she simply hates milk so i try n give her kheer or make suji halwa with milk in it.thats how a little amount of milk goes into her stomach.she eats regular n normal food like rice, dal, chapati, vegetable, fruits, butter, ghee, paneer etc but all in very little quantaties.moreover, she does not stick to a time schedule for eating, somedayz she takes feed 5-6 times in a day otherwise its hardly 3 times in a day.can u believe she is still wearing 6-month old child' s dress.i am planning to send her to play school i fear she will look the youngest in her group.i have consulted 4 different doctors in india n 1 here in dubai n they have conducted series of clinical tests just to clear my doubt for any physiological problem. but all the tests r normal.all the doctors have advised me not to panic on this issue as long as she is active, playful, learning things around here she is absolutely normal.so believe me, keep ur spirits up. be positive n upbeat ur baby will also get that positive vibe from u.i have searched almost all possible sites to study this weight issue n i feel they say that its just a phase will pass on with time. u just have to take care that ur daughter gets nutrion to keep herself active n playful thats all! dont worry too much about weight. all the best!!! be positive!!!
kamal replied. don' t worry nj, I' m mum to a 2.9 year old & my infant (coz that how sh e eats & looks like)is still on cerelac & milkshakes. You are truly lucky, coz my little doll actually & really I' m not making this up finishes 1 baby size roti in 3 hours. Her diet is limited to cerelac, milkshakes, maggi noodles & roti doesn' t touch anything else, not even forcefully. I know what she eats is not healty/nutritious but what choice do I have-atleast I mamage to fill her tummy. Thankfully (touchwood) shes active, so the doctor says even at 10.1 kg she is doing fine-though she was born at 3kg. I guess there really is nothing that we as mothers can do other than be vvvvvvery patient, something that others amongst the luckier lot can hardly understand. Don' t worry I guess we' ll just have for our kids to grow out of this.

Sometimes I think it´ s not a physiological problem, but wonder if it is a psychological issue when it comes to food. My son has always been very fussy. He gained weight perfectly until age 4-5 months, then after that his weight gain was ridiculously slow. Even now, he´ s on the lower side.
Earlier, when he showed the first signs of fussiness, we used to cajole and coax him to eat a little more. Now, mealtimes are a battle. He doesn´ t like milk, nor chapatis, eggs, chicken, nothing.
I wonder what we can do to reverse this situation.
