Eating Problems:Appetite reduced

My daughter is 2.3 years old. I was breast feeding her in the nights till she turned 2 years old and i have just successfully managed to put her to sleep myself without intervention of others at home. But now she has gone a little more crankier. To top it, her appetite has significantly reduced. I have started giving her more milk these days - could that be the reason or is it coz she is growing in age & is just a behavior problem? I have put her in playgroup and she has to start with regular school soon. The only thing that i thought was not a problem with her has started becoming a problem - that is her food & eating. Though i am not deeply worried at this point, I want to do something before it gets worse. She has learnt to open her mouth for the food and then spit it immediately. she is using new methods every day to avoid food. Any suggestions welcome.. thanks in advance.

Hi,
Thats fine.Even i learn more reading this mails.Yes its very difficult to manage as a mother and being a working woman. Yes as of now i have only a son.Planning to have one more but i' m scared to think of the other expenses too.since i have nobody to help me i have put him in a daycare and he finishes his preschool and goes to the daycare. Now i' m already paying 6000 for the daycare per month , the place where we stay is quite expensive so, lets see. Not yet decided.
Nice to hear from you too.

Hi,
I completely understand your problem.Since i' m facing the same problem, the worst part is my son finishes his preschool and then later goes direclty fro there to a daycare and stays there still i go in the late in the evening .so morning feeding breakfast is the worst because he neds to be ready by 8.20,school s at 8.40 and making them eat so early is difficult.Yes i understand kichidi is not fine for breakfast. Try dosa, idli, i make rice seva, its easy to prepare and son likes it, yes i understand they take a long time to eat , but we as mothers need to understand them, they stay away from us for the entire day , so they try to get all the attention they can get in a day.
Try to make new recipes like sandwiches with cucumber, cheeese, add tomatoes(if she likes) ,try small recipes on sundays when you stay with her so that you can know her taste.Dont coax her to eat , because that will become a habit. Pack something light if shes already going to a preschool, tell the teachers when you have a school eating.Slowly she will eat. Lets see how it works.i' m based out at Bangalore, how about you/
Regards

thank you for taking your time to reply to my questions krithika. i m based out of chennai and even i work just like you. so i am trying to do the best for my child, in turn getting disappointed and drained. anyway, i hv stopped hving expectations with her. her apetite is now 50% reduced. in place of 1.5 idlis before, she now eats only half idli for the breakfast. i hv given up. i will try this kellogs and chocos next saturday. do u hv only one son? are you planning for another kid - i am planning to.. so am all the more anxious to settle my daughter with everything before going for the next one. :-)

Hi,
Dont worry when you suddenly stop feeding kids usually turn a lttle crankier.Yes her appetite has reduced because of the intake of milk.Even i faced the same problem with my son.Be little firm about giving her more solids start with some good stuff like veg kichidi,in the beginning she may not take it ,but be patient if she doesnt eat dont give her milk immediately.Eating will gradually improve once they start going to pre- school because they will have other kids who wil give her company.Kids if they are in groupd they will tend to eat more. thanks for your suggestions krithika. i am trying my best and keep trying every day. since i go to work, i dont know how she feeds with my mil in the afternoons. but morning breakfast is the worst. she doesn´ t get up very early to leave considerable gap between milk and breakfast. as a result, breakfast time is a mess. she is going to playgroup already - so by the time she finishes (or finish spitting) her breakfast, its almost time.. and its hectic.. especially a veg kichidi day is the worst. idli, dosa is better. any other easy-to-do breakfast that would interest the child? pls give some easy recipes.
