hello,
if fenugreek doesnt suit you, i will doubt on garlic, as both are hot in nature as far as body is concerned and is your body has shown this reaction of being uneasy to hot nature food like fenugreek seeds, its quite possible that garlic pods might also be the same...
however,,i have known of all these and i have tried all of these below--i was able to bf until 1year and still after weaning,,i had tough time coming out of engorgement which went on until 2months.
1.fenugreek seeds,throw in all foods..(didnt work for you,,so leave it)
2.1 garlic pod sauted in 1tbsp of ghee, and a light dash of salt,,let it sauted just when the skin turns pink,,dont overfry it,,, use it only when you have rice after the main the course.only 1 per meal (lunch or dinner).,,not more than that..ghee will nullify the hot effect of garlic.
3.eating shallots or rather red onions is believed to boost milk production,,just a small piece with every meal,,i was not much into eating onions so i didnt follow it strictly,,but alot of my friends have shown changes in that.
4.eating oatmeal has proved increase in milk supply..drink as directed,i used to have a packet of quaker oatmeal every morning with milk as directed in it,they have one serving packets and you dont have to worry about howmuch you are eating ! its enough and great to start your day with.
5. in some cultures of india, drinking jeera water everyday until you bf has proved beneficial and their babies have remained gas free..and jeera also works as increasing your apetite..
6. since you are bf, you should be eating breakfast with milk,brunch or soup (spinach soup),lunch (a full course of indian food with one serving of 1 dal,rice,vegetable,one grain or wheat),brunch(i used to eat sprouted channa or boiled channa or sprouted/boiled whole moong with a lil tadka of curry leaves and hing,,salt or lemon whatever you prefer) and dinner and finally before sleeping a whole glass of milk with some sugar and a lil dash of cardamom,,to prevent gas.
7. in some parts of india, eating ajma or roasted ajma has proved to improved milk supply,,but they are very hot,,so add a couple of seeds to the jeera water that imentioned prev,,i used to drink that )..let the water cool or put it in fridge,and drink it thru out day.
8.also adding coconut in daily diet has proved to improve good quality of milk and its supply. add coconut water as a drink to your diet, throw in some shreeded coconut to dal or pwdeed coconut to any curry,,
9.couple of my italians friends told me to add oregano (similar but american version of ajma seeds )to my daily diet,,i used to throw it in dal, kadhi...
10.i used to also eat suva dana(its called dill seeds available in indian stores) or its water..try roasting some,with a lil salt, a lil sugar, and couple drops of lemon,and also add in coconut pwder,and a sprinkle of khus khus seeds,let all roast nicely until aroma comes and let it cool,,store in airtight container,,keep having it. i had it for 6months i was yummy,,also its a great digestive and its actually our family recipe for all goodness in pregnancy,and during bf...
other than that, i have heard of ladies taking shatavari herb tablets with ashwagandha tablets,in case where their lives were really hectic and because of stress levels they werent able to produce more milk or rather their milk supply went down...but they said that they had been taking it thru their young ages so they havent occured any problems in having and thier babies also were ok with it..himalaya brand is best to trust when it comes to ayurveda these days. i dontknow about others though.
always keep yourself relaxed,b out of stress mentally and physically,,take a nap with your baby,,have lots of fluids in your diet,,try munching something while you are feeding your baby,,that action will stimulate your supply to go up, because some women have shown the signs of nervousness when they feed their babies, and coz of that uneasiness milk supply isnt constant..
eat adequate full course diet,,eat fresh and eat healthy,,and dont overdo any food ! and after all these, remove from your head that your milk supply is low,,or else it will keep botherring you,,always keep saying i want to feed my baby,,and feed him on time ! boost yourself up & keep it goin...
