Trying since long:pill and period's

My wife has recently got onto the 21 day contraceptive pill for the 1st time. She started having on 13th May (the 1st day of her period) and stopped on 3rd June. She was advised by her gynac that she should wait for her next periods to come after stoppage of the pill and then start the pill again on day 1. Now currently her periods have been delayed by well over 12 days (expected on 13th / 14th of June) and she has not been taking the pill since 3rd of June (as she is awaiting her periods). Is safe to for such a large period 23 days - to go by and not have the pills? Is it safe to have unprotected sex during this period.

Alternatively is she supposed to have the pill for 21 days and then stop for 7 days and start the pill again for 21 days irrespective of whether the periods have come or not.

Kindly clear this confusing matter of the pill and the periods for us.

Dear Rak,
She is facing consequences of birth control pill. It's nothing strange. It happens.
She should not take pill before she experience period. She must start pill on the new cycle day 1.
No, unprotected sex must be avoided.
You can however use condom.

If she takes longer time and you get worried bring this to her gynecologist.

Hi Archie -

Thanks for your response.

We spoke to my wife gynac who is based in Bombay, India recently (we are based in UAE for the moment).

She advised my wife to take a tablet called regestrone - 5 MG for 5 days (one in morning and one in the evening). After finishing this course, my wife would be getting her period 7 days after this.

Now our concerns are as follows (unfortunately these could not be checked with the gynac over the phone)
- What is this new pill my wife has been asked to take ? What is the objective of this pill
- Will she have to take this the next time around as well

We thought taking the 21 day pill would be a very regular and routine thing and would bring maximum security from unwanted pregancy.

Can you please clarify

regards / rak
