Bowel and Bladder Movements:Potty Train once a child can sit

I disagree that in India potty training is done by force. I raised 2 beautiful children in Mumbai and started potty-training them at the age of around 5-6 months (both were able to sit well) and did it with fun - reading to them most of the time and they were trained and well controlled within a month. I believe the most important milestone for potty training is sitting and once the child sits comfortably is time to potty train. Its up to the parent to be patient and willing to get ' going' !

Even if some parents may use pressure - its not the norm and I find the statement by Pranay that Indians use force objectionable!

Hi LynnS

thanks for your subtle point of view.

I wanted to start my daughter (sh's 3 monts and she wears washable nappy ) around like your children 5/6 months ...
Where do you place the potty in living area or only bathroom ? Do you sit them more than one time ? Everytime your feed them ?How long did it take for them to do it by themselve?

Our children are more intelligent than we treat them i firmely beleive that!

Thanks for your advise and well done for your kids !!!

RE:Baby cries while passing urine - Hetal pls advice
At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi Karthik this is a serious issue and you should look into this matter very seriously as its concern with your own child and you cannot let things go, have a good consulting done by a good doctor.... - Amaira [View Message]
