Hi,
My 23 months old daughter is having a continuous cold and cough for the past 2 - 3 weeks.. she keeps getting one viral infection after another.. she is always very cranky.. not eating well.. Worst of all, she completely started disliking milk feeds! i normally give her milk in tumbler.. now she wont even take a sip of milk.. anytime of the day.. iam having a very hard time giving her milk.. so i force her to drink milk by feeding her milk with medicine syringe.. this is really getting bad!
Pls anyone advice me.. i can feed milk for my daughter at this time.. ! y she is having this hatred for milk.. past 3 weeks..i dont know..before that she was drinking properly only..
Pls suggest me ways to give her atleast a little milk.. can anyone suggest any milk flavours.. iam in US, new jersey.. available here? i just give plain milk with sugar for my daughter..!

Since the doctor is not giving any medicine for her.. can u pls suggest any home remedies for her cold and cough.. she has runny , stuffy nose..and cough..!

Thanks..
Anu

If she doesn' t like milk, and you force her, then she will end up HATING it. Just leave her alone. She can fulfill her calcium requirements with 1 slice of cheese and 1 bowl of dahi. This equals 2 big glasses of milk, which is adequate for a 2 year old. My son hates milk. Flavours, milkshakes, nothing works for him. So, you could try the flavours, but if nothing works, don' t force feed her, don' t get angry at her, just give her calcium substitutes - leafy green veggies, cheese, paneer, dahi, potatoes, all contain calcium. Milk must be upsetting her stomach, which is why she is rejecting it.

Cold and cough for 2 - 3 weeks is TOO MUCH. You have to take her to another pediatrician. And she needs to be given adequate medicines. Prolonged cold and cough can weaken her lungs. In the meantime, give her ajwain water. My doc prescribed T-minic drops for his cold and cough. Check with a pediatrician and then you can go on.

if your daughter has celiac disease or lactose intolerance, you are actually hurting your child by feeding her milk!
Ask her why she doesnt like to feed on milk, see her reaction.
And its weird to see her get cough and cold for 2-3 weeks! Her immune system isnt good enough, has she been vaccinated?
Why wont her doctor give her medications? I think you need to take her to a good pediatrician.
Does your family have a history of any disease or congenital disease? Is your child suffering from anything else?
When she coughs, check her sputum.

Hi,

With milk try mixing custard powder, ragi malt or even bournvita(all these you get in indian stores). You arein New Jersey, so Subzi mandi also has a good variety of instant mixes in milk like the MTR badam mix. Most kids like it. Try this. I think the key to getting kids to drink milk is variety. Make milk shakes with fruit and give it.

About home remedies, rub coconut oil mixed with camphor on chest and nose that should give her relief. Also, she can be given ajuvenie to smell. That helps. Give her milk with turmeric (again this can be one of your variety).
