Hi,
My daughter Ria who is now 22 mths old eats only food which is pureed from the mixie. Its not that I never tried giving her whole solid food. She just didn't accept it. I'm being trying to give her food which is not pureed since she was 7 mths old. She use to gag and vomit it out. She'll vomit even everything that she has eaten 3-4 hrs earlier. She does that at this age too. Though she'll eat very small pieces of biscuits or 5-6 grains of rice, but not her complete meal. Plus nowadays she's started to skip her meals and will refuse to eat anything. Will go hungry for hours. What do I do? Can anyone help me?

Hi 3rose,

My daughter is now almost 26 mths old. She has started to eat some whole solid food but, only on her own which is in a very less quantity. If I force her that same food then she'll vomit. Its only on her own that she'll eat. Since she eats this in a very less quantity, I have to feed her and that is ofcourse in a pureed form. Though I'am seeing some improvement(touch wood), but I don't force her. When I went to the doctor for her 2 yr old check up, I discussed this issue with him, and he said that thats fine don't force her and gradually you'll see difference in her. His exact words were "she'll slowly outgrow this problem". I guess the same with you. Don't lose your heart keep trying. Thats it I can say cause I'am going through same too. Do let me know if there is any changes in your son. My best wishes to you.

Dear Sonia,

We had a similar problem earlier. We have managed to get over it. What we did was gave him both pereed food and regular food. Initially what we did was mashed the regular food a little with the finger so he got used to chewing the food and over days reduced the mashing. As he got used to chewing the food, we reduced the amount of pureed food and increased his solid food. Now he is 23 months and for the last 6 months is eating solid food. You could try this, it may work. Do let me know if u succeed.

Hi Pradeep Ghorpade,
Thanks for the advice you've given. I'm trying to do as you said. My daughter has started to take some food but only if she wishes to. Just 1 or 2 morsels and I don't force her. Hopefully, it will work but looks like it will take sometime for her to get into the habit of eating proper solid food. Once again thanks for your idea and do let me know if you can suggest anything more.
Thanks,
Sonia.

Dear Sonia -

My son used to gag when I used to give him solid food as opposed to pureed food and he would vomit sometimes as well. You have to keep trying and she will get used to it. Cut the food into small pieces and let her pick up the food and feed herself. Children like to feed themselves. Let her see you eat the food as well and feed you, it will be a nice game for her as well.

You have to be determined and she will eat it, stop giving her the pureed food. As for her refusal on eating anything, some children get to an age where they really dont want to eat anymore for many reasons:
1) age
2) teething
3) not feeling well
4) not hungry
5) too excited or active

Good luck to you.

Hi Jasmine,
Thanks for your advice. I've started to keep some small pieces of food in front of my daughter, so that way she can pick up and eat. Well to tell you, she has and hopefully she'll start to eat proper solid food. But, like Mr Pradeep Ghorpade said I also give her, her pureed food side by side since she doesn't eat enough and like I said she's use to the pureed food. Do let me know if you have some more suggestions.
Thanks,
Sonia.
