Hello,

I want to know what sort of dresses should we wear when we go to work in USA. I have seen women wearing a coat mostly on movies and tv. Is it like that in reality? Is it not enough if I just were a shirt/t-shirt and pants? Is presentation very important in the US? I do wear makeup but only occasionally. I also feel awkward always to wear a coat. Is it not possible to wear a simple attire and go to work ? In India I did not mind about what people thought about my attire but in the US I am sort of conscious about my appearance. If anybody is working please give me insight about dressing to work.

I guess it depends on where you work, and your position there. How do the people in your workplace dress? Take your cues from there. My group is very casual, so I wear jeans and a tee shirt or a sweater to work. I've never worn a suit or a jacket except to an interview. My husband's group is a little less casual, so he wears a business shirt and pants to work, but no coat. My friend is a consultant, so she wears a suit when he goes to client companies.

Also, I suppose if you're a manager you have to dress more sharply than the people who report to you.

Atleast where I live (near Boston) it's fine to wear either pants or a skirt to an interview. Go with what is comfortable for you, and good luck in your interview.

Thanks. I wanted to know if I have to wear a skirt for an interview. Because when we are asked to wear a business attire for an interview I have read that business attire consists of skirts. Is it not okay if i wear pants ?

I am a mother of 4 years old son and I am working woman. I usually left home by 9 in morning and reach by 8 in evening.
I usually get quality time with my son on Sundays/holidays. But then as i reach home by 8 eve, I realy work hard to finish the work and food by 10 or 10:30 to make love with my son coz i love him very much after my husband.
