Hi Aradhana. In reply to your message, the appetite stimulants that the doc prescribed are basically simple multi-vitamin, multi-mineral drops. The brand that I' ve mentioned in my earlier posts (Mimorange-L) does not even have any preservatives or artificial colours. And no sugar. I don' t think infants and toddlers should be given much sugar, whether khara sugar or regular sugar. Mimorange is sweetened with natural orange juice.
It contains iron, all B vitamins and all necessary minerals. But, for an appetite stimulant to take effect, it should be given for 1 month, then discontinued, then you can repeat it again after a gap of 1 month. Check with your doc and if he/she says it' s ok, then you can give her Mimorange-L.
Which appetite stimulant syrup were you giving her ?

Mel replied. Kavita, I experienced something similar, where my son used to feel hungry... he would drool and suck his fingers etc, but wouldn' t eat normal food. So, I tried something that worked for a while. I made a simple pulao... fry half an onion, add some chicken stock (or) chicken stock powder (or) 2 chicken soup cubes and fry for half a minute, add lots of veggies (carrots, green beans, peas, potatoes, etc) and cook for a few minutes. Add rice and water and cook. Just put it in front of him, and let him try it.
About Junior Horlicks, it is recommended for toddlers above 2 years old. Why don' t you try Pediasure (1-3 years)instead ? It' s much better. It contains whatever daily nutrients and vitamins needed. But, don' t let your son depend only on pediasure.
Hi Mandeep. Ofcourse I remember you. You used to be spread across so many boards on this website, answering queries and trying to solve other peoples problems. Sorry for your loss. And glad to have you back.
kavita replied. can some body suggest some appetite stimu. for my 18 m old son. he not having anything except milk or little bit of rice. but he is very fond of maggie, chips and kurkure.
some time he is hungry but he dont like food thats why he askes for milk. is junior horlicks will help to fulfill his daily need.
Mel replied. It' s the same with all of us. Sometimes our advice is accepted and sometimes it isn' t.
Yes, I think there was one more lady called Mandeep. Even her advice was quite good. Haven' t seen her on the board off late.
I think that' s the benefit of this board. It' s everybody' s cumulative knowledge. :)
gauri replied. i liked about what u said,\" think we need to find a balance between allopathy, home remedies and waiting for natural immunity to kick in. :) It' s best not to run to the doctor at the drop of a hat, and it' s also bad if you completely avoid going to a doc. \"
i too believe in this ...not running to doctor...but incase of serious probmlem like my second daughter who was 2 motnhs n we had to start top feed..she started passing green stools...i had to imidiately rushed to ped ....coz i too can understand she is too small..n we cant use home remedy on her...then doctor suggested formula milk for her...otherwise for my elder daughter when she was 3 motnhs we started giving her cow milk ...she had no problem with that...
not eating properly is such a common problem that we all face ...n this will continue i think till our children go to college...(my college going sis in law doesnt eat home food..all the time they eat outside)
n not all the time my mils advice works...one of our distant relative had come to stay with us..she saw me giving this mixture..inspite of telling her not to gv her daughter till she completes 2 years she gave this mixture to her 2 months daughter...within few days she started loos e motions ...without my knowledge she took that powder n gave her...i shouted at her a lot..she gv it to her daughter coz she wanted to improve her daughters complexion..with saffron...
i always check this board ..but u must have seen that nowadays i dont reply to anyone i reply to aradhana only..coz i think by now aradhna knows me n my thinking too well ...i am sure if she doenst like my advice she will never go for it...i always share whatever i knwo with her..n i use to do it with others too..but twice there was a debate on my advice on this baord...after that i dont reply to anyone... i only discuss my problem on this board now...
by the way i have gone thru ur suggestions onb this board..i think like hetal u too have good knowledge about raising kids...there was one more lady neelima...i use to like her suggetions too ..i dont know whr is she now...?
Mel replied. Yes... I know... it' s so nice to meet like minded people.
I have no biases... I don' t mind home remedies as long as they make logical sense, but if my MIL asks me to rub honey on my son' s gums when he' s teething, I don' t see any logic as to how honey will reduce teething pains... At best, kids must be liking the sweet taste of honey, which is why they may stop crying temporarily as they start focusing on the honey. But, I DO believe that honey causes botulism in infants. This has been scientifically proven.
I think we need to find a balance between allopathy, home remedies and waiting for natural immunity to kick in. :) It' s best not to run to the doctor at the drop of a hat, and it' s also bad if you completely avoid going to a doc.
Yes, I too read ALL the books from the ' What to expect series' (except for babysitters and nanny' s). And I found every single question in my mind answered. I followed the ' Expecting' book month by month through my preganancy, then ' First Year' and now ' Toddler Years' .
I also wanted to thank you for your message. I, like many others, have replied to many queries on various boards, but most of the time, we don' t get any feedback about whether the advise worked, whether things have become better, or not improved at all. I don' t mind if people don' t reply, as long as some parent & child' s problems are being solved. But, the thing is... when someone replies... it' s nice to know what worked and didn' t work. And it' s nice to know what helped. So, thanks for letting me know what helped you.
Earlier I used to look around and look at all these chubby babies and toddlers, and think that I must be the only person on this planet who has a little one who makes such a huge fuss about eating. In all other respects, he is absolutely wonderful. He' ll sleep according to his routine, play quietly when I' m busy. But, the only problem I' ve ever had was eating. But after visiting this board, even I learnt that there are so many more children like my son. Anusha & Aryaman are just drops in an ocean of children with similar eating habits. We just have to find ways of getting them to eat.
Take care. And all the best.
Aradhana replied. Hi Mel,
The doc prescribed her CYP-L . Well, i too agree abt the sugar intake of kids.
And my doc too is particular. Even with medicines he is very careful and will prescribe only if really needed. So when he gave this.. i just gave it to my dd. I' ll check with him regarding Mimorange. I' ve been asked to give it 4 15 days .. will reconfirm the duration with him too. Thanks a lot.
Actually Mel, whenever i read ur posts abt ur sons eating habits, i think ur talking about Anusha ,my daughter. Also, ur posts convey that ur thoughts on parenting is very similar to mine. Then in one such post i learned that followed the What to expect series... n believe me thast been my Bible since i concieved... even b4 that actually.
But i guess i missed some part. About a second child.. i was really confused.. n then i read ur msg.. and abt having one only if u wanted one. That message help me make my mind. Just wanted to thank u 4 that.
Thanks a lot...
