Hi all moms out there..... i have a 14 mnth old girl. Had problems feeding her from the start. Docs suggested giving her a couple of bottle feeds to supplement the low milk supply i had. But my lil one would never drank from the bottle. Wud just chew on the nipple. Had to start semi solid food by 4 months... but even that wasn' t easy.
Even now most of her food still goes in as purreed stuff. I give her rice with curd for lunch /dinner.... she' ll maybe 2-3 spoons that too with so much difficultly. So the rest i have to put in a blender and put it in a food feeder bottle and when she is playing , i try to give her a couple more spoons..... i ve tried everythi ng to distract her toys/ going out and even the tv but doesn' t work. tried giving her some rice in a small bowl for her to feed herself , but she just smashes that on the ground and plays. Had tried also giving bread / roti /pasta /dosa ...but noting works. I try to give her fruits and vegs daily but very little goes in. I still breastfeed... but the supply isn' t much and doesn' t satisfy her.

Now coming to the actual prob....se is teething and the little that she used to eat , she refuses that now. the min she sees food she turns away. Had the same prob 2 mnths back when she got her first 4 teeth. But that lasted for only 2 days. This is now a wk since it start.
Have anyone of u faced the same problem? loss of appetite during teething? I manage to give her few bites of fruit /dates/ bread in btn... but no proper meal as such. tried giing her cold fruit /curd to soothe her gums... but upset tat hse isn' t eating

I feel as if you are narrating my life story to me.

I went through the same thing. My son wasn' t gaining enough weight so the doc recommended supplementing with one bottle. I faced the same problem that you mentioned. WORD FOR WORD.

Till my son was a year old, I used to distract him and try and feed him pureed rice, dal and veggies. He would eat a few spoons and that would be it. Then around age 9 months, he developed a taste for Curd. He would eat only a bit of curd. So, I used to add a little rice to it and try and get him to have it. But, he would hardly have anything.

I' ve tried EVERYTHING... Baby food (all varieties), bread sticks, fruits, veggies, you name it.... But, he is just not willing to even sample food. The minute he sees food, he wants to run away.

Over the last few months, however, I have figured something out about him. It could be the same case with your little girl. What I figured out is...

He refuses food when he is sick, when he is teething, and when we travel to a new place. If I try and cajole him to eat at these times, he goes ballistic and is developing a hatred for food. He doesn' t even like formula or cow' s milk. He just likes Nestum (mixed with water, not milk), maybe because it' s bland. So, when he' s unwell or teething, he ONLY wants that.

When he gets better, then we try and give him proper food. Sometimes he has it and sometimes he doesn' t. I have learned to live with that. But, the more I force and the more I cajole, the more he turns away. (He is 19 months old now.) When he is sick he won' t eat food for almost a week, and sometimes longer.

So, just try that... if she is teething, let her have whatever she wants. Most babies are fussy with solids when they are teething. Just ease up the pressure on her.

All the best.
