First of all, there should not be blood or mucous in your baby' s stool. A tiny quantity of mucous once in a while is acceptable, but it should not be present regularly. Blood should never be present. Mucous could be present because of 2 reasons: an infection or allergy to some food product.
My son developed an infection at around the same age. The doc said that it was because he had started putting his fingers / fists into the mouth. It is not to do with the bottles. Keep sterilising bottles until he is 7 - 8 months old, then washing with hot, soapy water is adequate. If your son has recently started putting his hands into his mouth, this could be cause of the infection. It should clear up by itself with the medication that the doc provided. My son' s infection took about a week for it to clear up and for normal bowel movements to resume.
A smaller possibility is that he is allergic to either Lactogen, bananas or Zerolac. You can discontinue one for a day or two and see if his bowel movements improve. If nothing happens, then that food is fine. Don' t lose heart. Give him medicine and Zerolac till his stool improves, then once he' s better, give him diluted lactogen for a few days (3 scoops lactogen with 6 oz water) and so on. Once his stomach is stronger again in 2 - 3 days go back to full strength formula (6 scoops to 6 oz water).

RE:Baby cries while passing urine - Hetal pls advice
At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi Karthik this is a serious issue and you should look into this matter very seriously as its concern with your own child and you cannot let things go, have a good consulting done by a good doctor.... - Amaira [View Message]
