Hi Sheetal,

I got rid of the pacifier for my son at abt 15m age..It was tuf for sure..but I guess it will be tuf at any age..and I feel that 8m is still too less to be too rigid on her..
Also, even I feel pacifier is better than thumb sucking and bottle at night.
I feel this because thumb sucking habit does not go off easily because thumb is with the kid always..pacifier can be removed once the kid is asleep
I have checked with a couple of Ped and all were ok with Pacifier
Few things for u to check
- keep the pacifier clean
- try using pacifier only as a sleeping help
- remove the pacifier from her mouth as soon as she is asleep

Hi Sheetal...

I am mother of 1 yr old baby. my son was also used to with the habit of sleeping with pacifier but thankfully i didi get rid of his this habit when he was 8 months old.... everybody used to say that this is not good and u can stop this habit only now as he is not so much big n all that. Then i determined that I' ll not give him pacifier any more.... no doubt I had to suffer a lot.... as he used to wake up again n again n demand for paci... but I was determined and had to give up my sleeps for her..... not more than a week n he forgot the paci.... n I was happy tht I am able to do that... as previously i was alz searching for his Paci... when he cry n taking care of them all the times... as these are not good for health if infectious.... U have to try hard!!!!!!!

Best of luck..... get back to us with ur feedback.....

Jyoti

I don' t want to sound mean, but, please GET RID of it. It may be orthodontic or anything, but it is not good for them. Besides, it is not mandatory that they have to suck their thumbs in lieu of the pacifier. It' s better not to put them on a pacifier in the first place, but since she is already used to it, try stopping it very gradually. Prolonged use can lead to misalignment of the teeth (I don' t care what the pacifier companies say... it can lead the upper teeth to protrude, and the lower teeth to incline inwards).

Try stopping it by giving her a bottle of water (baby bottle) at bed time. She may suck on the bottle of water instead of sucking on the dummy. Try this when she is very sleepy, but make sure she is inclined or sideways so she doesn' t choke. It may be a bit hard.... but do it gradually, so that she doesn' t get traumatised. A pacifier in the long run will be a security object. Now she is just 8 months old. In a few months, she will start experiencing stranger anxiety, and will start demanding the pacifier whenever she is upset, or frightened or uneasy. I have seen 2 year olds also sucking on a pacifier while they play in the garden with other kids. Please END THIS HABIT within the next 2 - 3 months. AS she grown older, and turns into a fussy toddler (from a well-eating infant), the pacifier can cause more damage by giving her non-nutritive sucking pleasure. SO, instead of fillinf up on nutrition calorie rich food, she will be content sucking on this some of the time.

Subject:  Pacifier..!!

Hi Sheetal...my daughter started using the pacifier from 1 month onwards...and she' s 1.6years old now..still she gets sleep only with the paci in the mouth...without it..she never sleeps...so i have been sterlizing pacis for her..and I carry 4 sets of pacis for her...when we move out of the house...just incase she drops any down..!!

If the pacifier is of a good brand..like Nuk or Nuby or any other proper orthodontic kinds it is very good for the baby..better than sucking the thumb..!!

Demerits can be timely sterlization of the pacifier required..without which there can be a host of infections- tummy problems..cold etc...for your baby to catch..!!

How to stop her from using the paci...even I do not know...probably with age they will stop the use..!!
