Eating Problems:Switching from Bottles to Sippers or Glasses

Name: Chitra Anand

My kids (twins) are 2 years and 3 months., they just love to drink milk in bottle., and refuse to touch milk if given in any other method.
I have tried sippers and straw-glasses for nearly 3 weeks, and it is very very difficult for then to drink milk.,and it takes more than an hour to drink., and the quantity also has drastically reduced.,
Somebody please advice, is this the right age to stop? Today i didn't have any other go but to give the milk in bottle.,Being a working mother, its very difficult to manage it with twins., even if one agrees to drink in sipper, the other one throws up a tantrum for bottle.Tell me how do i overcome it.

Hi
I completely understand what u r going thru. i tried everything to stop my 2 yrs son from drinking from the bottle, sippers, chocolate topping, etc..
Ultimately, one weekend (since I am working), I told him that while washing all the bottle broke and we threw them out.. and I actually threw them out (so that I dont get tempted to use them). And i didnt give him the bottle and sang to him.. and we were both awake the whole night but i didnt give it to him.. i cant imagine that i was so hard on him.. but the next he asked only once and then occasionally.. now he has completely forgotten abt it.. initially he used to have very little milk from a cup...nowadays its better.. and he alsmot has a full cup.. i tried.. falooda.. and custards which is good if he not having milk.. Before he used to live on milk.. now hes eating well .. and all food
Do try it out.. Some people tell the crow has taken it aways.. I had a friend who filled up the bottle with milk and gav it to the doc.. and he never asked for it again

Your suggestion is very good ff.....I must congratulate you on having such patience and determination. Luckily, my daughter did not give me hard time weaning from bottle as I started quite early when she was only 11 months old....she used to handle sippy cup very well for juice and I thought that it was right time to wean her off the bottle also.....though weaning her off from sippy cup seems to be a bit more difficult. But I guess I should just give it some time....and moreover she's ok with straw as a substitute to sippy cup.
Cheers and good luck to you with your twins Chitra.
A.

I had the same problem with my son who is now 2 years and 6 months old. It takes a lot of patience and some healthy distration initially.

Switch from the bottle to the sipper first. Tell them a story or put on their favorite music/ switch channels till you see something that catches their attention. Offer a treat as soon as the milk is all polished off.

Once they've settled down on the sipper, move qucikly to glasses as I have heard that the sipper can be as habit forming as the bottle.

All the very best !
