I faced the same problem for my son who is now 2 years old. He was exclusively breast fed and he used to pass stools only once a week. His doctor said this was normal for some breastfed kids. Sometimes I used the infant laxatives to help him poop(very rarely). He started to poop regularly when he was around 5 months (started solids).
My parents and in-laws suggested so many techniques to try to make him poop and nthing worked out.
Having gone through this problem I would suggest you to not worry or panic about it and go with what your ped recommends. Take care.

hi rashmi

i also faced this with my daughter.... you dont have to worry about this...as ur baby is completely breastfed...breast milk is completely digested by the child and there is'nt enough bulk made to pass stool....till the time she passes soft stool after 6-7 days u dont have to worry....u should look out for hard stool as that is constipation....soft stool after 6-7 days is nornmal....once u start with top feed and solids..her bowel movements will become normal...as it did with my daughter who is now 6 months old...i faced this till she was 5 months...if she is active and taking ur feed and passing gas...u can relax..

I am feeling much better knowing that my baby is not the only one with this problem. It can happen with any one.and it is not unusual.

make a bud of cotton very small put glycerine or soap so that it will become slippary insert gently in to the anus.
it will surely help.

Good idea, Rushika. I worry a lot about autointoxication from the bowels, and I try to make sure my daughter does a do every day. Have you ever tried making a suppository of soap?

RE:Baby cries while passing urine - Hetal pls advice
At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi there please be calm and relax as it happens sometime the child takes little time to start walking or crawling also but in your case the child should have started crawling if not walking.... - Anita [View Message]
