Dear Moms,

My 6 month old son is just recovering from acute diarrhea.Every one is asking me to stop bottlefeeding strictly.Inspite of maintaining proper hygiene he is suffering from viral infections.Nowadays he is taking mashed banana, curd rice, sabudane ki kheer & all other starchy product + milk,ie,Lacotgen 1 from bottle & ORS & Narial pani but he takes only 2-3 teaspoon of everything & starts crying. I keep on making funny faces, talking to him, singing& again he takes 2 spoons. His diet is mainly milk but dry is insisting to give him everything including boiled potato, daal, rice, upma so that his bottle feeding is reduced but I am a working lady & I have taken an off of 3 days due to his health issue & i cant manage to have more leaves & maid is not able to make him eat all these stuff.
I know that bottle feeding is not solely responsible for diarrhea since he is taking bottles since he was 2 month old & there was no infectio at all.It may be due to envriornmental changes also.Pls guide me what should i do.Should i discontinue bottle feeding but i cnt see him crying due to hunger. His total milk intake is 30 oz avg that cant be fed with spoon & he is alreday loosing weight becoz of diarrhea at this stage if i dnt give him milk he is definately going to b very weak.If i countinue with bottles what are the ways to prevent diarrhea?I m in India.Pls guide me I’m really being very confused & depressed.Ours is a nuclear family & i have to manage my work, household works & my baby.Hubby is too busy to support me.Every peadiatrician starts giving me lecture on the drwabacks associated with bottle feeding & my hubby starts looking at me as I am responsible for everything.
Looking forward to Ur advices.I know, in this board there are many working woma
En & its really challenging to manage home, work & baby but I m finding it impossible.
Need sum motivation & inspiration.

Thanks in advance,
Monica

Hi, I understand ur problem... you can keep 3-4 bottles depends on the no.of times ur baby is taking milk. Use mild cleaner like ( Prill dilute it with water ) clean and sterlise it cleanly everyday. Keep changing the nipple. ask ur maid to rinse the bottle with hot water everytime b4 she use that... this will keep baby from getting infection.try with some rhymes CD while feeding... they might be playful and eat.

hi, I had similar problem when my kid was 5-6 months old. I am a working women, however I didnot bottle feed. My grand mother suggested me to use spoon to feed. I know it takes lot of time but it is always safe. Keep your legs streched and make kid lie on your leg and feed him with spoon. It may be hard in the beginning but once he gets habituated it will be fine. It is hygenic. My kid is now 9 months old and even now whenever I feed him milk i do the same. My kid had diarea due to formula feed and so I stopped it and started giving him rice and dal ka pani and my problem was solved.

iam also a mom with a daughter of 2 years. She also started having the same problem of diarrhoea starting from 6 months.it also keep reoocuring evry 4 -5 months. They were very server diarrhoea and my daughter became very weak during those days.she stopped eating totally and was on only on ORS .
Stop milk during diarrhoea completely.if u are feeding the child keep doing that
Almost every doc told to stop Bottle but iam still continuing.Ome more thing my bay had allergy with dalia so any time she took it she had the loose motions.Find out if your baby has any allergy food
I know it is very painful time but surely it will go slowly but finally it will pass
take care

Hi Monica...I can understand ur situation but ur baby is so small..he ca' t take so much at this stage....i dont think that bottle can make so much trouble if u maintain proper hygiene..just boil bottles properly or u can do one thing have 2-3 bottles...if u can just boil them by urself instaed of maid..i used to do the same and just maid let to feed him with bottles.....as u have taken leave u can teach ur maid in front of u ..tell her to sing something like u do..i did the same thin when my baby wsa small...just do it for one day nad next day let her to feed him and u jst watch by hiding urself like behind the door and curtains cz if baby will see u he will not have somethin from her....I 9 doc say to avoid bottles but we don' t have option cz we have to do work also but just keep them very clean ..boil them at every feed....so dont take so much tension it is bad time that will pass soon ..I 9 its difficult as I am also paasin from the same my son is also sufferin from the same after his viral infection but we can only do best from our side...

r u given him medicine also..where r u puttin up in India..

hope it will give u some idea...take care and luv to ur baby :)

RE:Baby cries while passing urine - Hetal pls advice
At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi there please be calm and relax as it happens sometime the child takes little time to start walking or crawling also but in your case the child should have started crawling if not walking.... - Anita [View Message]
