Subject: Low Lying Placenta

Dear Neetu,
It's common to see some amount of placenta being still low lying at 17th week gestation. I don't think there is much to worry at this moment because there is plenty of time for placenta to move upward.

After completing 30 weeks, say around week 34 have an ultrasound (bpp-biophysical profile) if that time you still have low lying placenta then you would be worrying a little.

Do you really need bed rest with this condition today?
NO, typically you won't need complete bed rest today. But you can't really be as active as any other preggie with placenta moved upward posterior. There is a little risk of spotting or bleeding from extra stress and also from heavy duty. Therefore keep life as you did in first trimester and with that you should be perfectly fine.
If you have to work at office try to keep mininum with your climbing stairs and also do not lift heavy stuff at office.
When at home try to do work slowly and rest as much as you can. I would suspect your placenta to move completely upward in about 4-5 weeks from today. I don't think you will be offered an ultrasound just to confirm that around week 24 or week 25, but you can wait till week 34 and have it done.

Should you spot a little don't get alarmed, just get on to bed.

I don't see concern behind lime juice, you should be allowed, still place this concern to your OB.
You should eat and drink stuff that you want to without getting concerned about Gestation diabetes, dedl that when you are identified. Besides keep me updates of your weight gain, if you gain too much weight and continue to do that then I would wonder if carbs intake should be reduced not today!!!!

Good luck
Archie

Hi Suhanya,
I am not much tensed but more confused on the resting part. The distance between the Placenta and the cervix is above 2cm(or mm bit confused here). Gync told me that it has be above 3cm(or mm). Above all she explained it in details to my hubby due to which he is in tension. But U know what... even after all this he ask me to sit in home rather then helping me with some housework... Anyway I am more confident that everything will turn out normal at the end. Just wanted to confirm it with Archie, and also to know what are the precausion that I need to take. Will be meeting my Gync again on Monday evening to discuss the GD report.
Take care and enjoy.

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
