child is four month old, primarily on lactogen started taking very less feed frm 24 onz to almost 12 onz per day. Besides that he vomits most of the milk taken in that feed as it is. While taking the feed/after feed 4 more or less two feed everyday. Is this a common prob??? What r da ways to prevent this??4 last few days da child has taken 2 sucking/licking his hands alot....

Even 60 ml is also fine . He is still small and each baby is different.Give him small amounts and feed often so that he won' t be hungry.Even if he vomits feed him again.Thumbsucking habit starts at this age but it may be because he is hungry too. If he has voimitted feed him again with lessa mount of milk or cerelac. But make sure taht this vomitting is not because of allergy or GERD with your pediatrician.

Also try to burp him once u feed him.hold him straight for 20 to 30 mins after each feed and burp him.don' t put immediately to bed. If he is gassy and costipated colicaid used to help.but check with your pediatrician for this. Also gripe water helps but again check with your pediatrician.I am giving gripe water(5 ml) even now to my son once a day for his gas problems.

Hi Paraj,

Even my baby is not breatfed from day1.The main cause for vomit might be the milk powder which ur using....its not suiting him.here in U.S we get diff formula for spitups, gassy n with iron.try some formula it might help.
Also try to strealize all the bottles n nipples regularly.
try to give gripewater for a week n see it that helps for gas. Also when u burp him don' t try to press hard on his tummy/back,just put him in a sitting position.
even my baby was just taking 2oz/feeding so don' t worry about it.

thumbsucking is mainly becoz of hunger or they try to sooth themselves.

good luck.

Small babies may spit up after each feeding. But if u think the quantity vomitted is more than half of feed it is not spit up.It is vomitting and it requires ur pediatrician' s attention. Tell him how much u give and how much he vomits and how many times per day he vomits. My son also started vomitting once i stopped breastfeeding and it continued till he was one and half years. Even now he has eating problems.Try giving 100 to 120 ml per feed two hours once. If u feel ur child is suffering because of indigestion or allergy tell the doctor. It might be because of simple Gastric problems.
