Due Date Club December 2005:appointment update..... Placenta is still low
2005-08-25
Name: ammy

Hi Archie and all,
Had my monthly checkup yesterday. Gync said that everything is fine and also the growth of the baby. I have put on 10KG weight till now. BP was also fine. Will be having the GD test tommorrow.
But there is only one problem.. that is Placenta is still laying low. I had my US in 21st week and now I am completing 25th Week. After US she had said that it will move upward, but still the Placenta is low and near to the cervix. She has said that same thing again that still there is enough time for placenta to move upward. As I will be steping into 7 month.. she has asked me to come after 15 days. My hubby was tensed by this... and asking me to take leave from work and sit in home. Work in home is more than the work in office. Atleast in office seeing my condition they give less responsibility.. but if I sit in home then I have to manage all the work on my own. I also discussed with my sister and even she is telling me to take complete bed rest. But Gync has not suggested this still... I am more confused now then tensend.
I know that many of them on previous board have discussed this issue with you... But still I am requesting you to please advice me what should I need to do. When I told her that I will be going to my native palce to delivery she said nothing. Also when we were leaving she said \";So finale US you will be having in your native place\";. So I think that right now there is no need to worry on this part.. but still my sister and my hubby are getting more tensed on this....
Waiting for your reply.

Dear Ammy,
There are a few more weeks for placenta to move upward and one must be positive about it. I would not warn you about caution at this stage, you are already scared enough.
But I will suggest you to keep eye on followings:

You may get more lower back pain and bed rest will help you feel better.

Because placenta is low, you may spot with stress and heavy duty. Do not work hard, do not bent to grab things at home, get you spouse to help you around with chores at home.

Placenta should not only move upward but also towards the posterior side.

In case you get lower back pain try to get some bed rest and hopefully it will improve. If your lower back pain does not improve even after bed rest give a call to your OB.

I do not recommend you a complete bed rest but I also do not recommend you a rigorous activities.

Where exactly you live? Are you in USA and want to deliver baby in India, I would have to suggest you to cancel that big plan of delivering baby in India unless you make sure through ultrasound that your placenta is moved upward.

If you have to travel within India for about few hours then try to travel by train and not by bus.

Do not do heavy work, treat like in first trimester with some mild activity.

Do not walk for hours in a go.

I think I am giving more suggestions on don'ts, which you might not like, but I have to do what's best for your situation.

your weight gain is Ok for the gestation and let me know your updates of Glucose tolerance test as you get them.

Stay in touch.
Archie

Hi Ammy...
Looks like a number of people on this board are facing the same problem..so dont worry too much...Just ask ur doctor about working..I think Dee is right , the only problem a low lying placenta can create is that u will have to go for a c-section...But if ur doc thinks its going to move up , have faith..
take care and keep smiling:-)

Hi Ammy,

Nothing to worry. Even I have low lying placenta and the doctor has not adviosed against anything. She just asked me to be a bit careful abt lifting weights etc.

Its normally assumed that by the time you move to 8th month, the placenta will go up as the size of your uterus increases. My SIL also had low lying placenta but it was detected as normal during last scan.

The one problem that is there if your placents doesnt move up is that you migt have to go for C section. But in most of cases what i have heard is that the placenta moves up. So chill out..Dont worry.

Take care,
Deepti.

Hi Ammy,

I had done my Scan on 2nd August and doc had checked everything and had told me that its a boy. She did not tell me anything about position of placenta. My next appointment is on 1st Sept. should i ask her about the placenta or she would have told me about this in the last appointment itself.

Did you again go for a scan? How did she find out the position of placenta? I really do not know about this?

And if your doc has not suggested to take leave i suppose u should continue with your work. And don't get tensed. Things will be fine.

Bye and take care,

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
