hi all,

i' ve been giving apple puree to my 6.5 months old daughter for 2 days. her stool color has changed to party black and partly yellow. will this settle in few days or any thing of concern? currently she takes following diet.
1. nestum rice 1 scoop + 1 small apple mashed and cooked mixed in NAN2 formula milk for break fast,
2.nestum rice 1.5 scoop mixed in NAN2 formula milk for lunch and
3.nestum rice 1.5 scoop mixed in NAN2 formula milk for dinner.
4.around 490/500 ml of NAN 2 formula for the rest of the day.
I give her 3/4 spoons of warm water after feeding solid food. is this water sufficient? how much water shud be given after introducing solids? pls let me know.

thanks

The black stools are because of the apple... that' s quite normal.

You can slowly increase the quantity of apple. I never boiled and pureed the apple. I merely grate the surface of the apple with a spoon so that a fine mash is created. I feed my son this. He quite likes it. He did not like the boiled and mashed version.

I think you need to start rice and moong dal khichadi. First wash the rice and moong dal (taken in equal quantity) thoroughly. Dry them in the sun for two days. Fry this mixture in a pan and then make a paste and store. This is called khimti in Maharashtra.

Initially just cook it in boiled water. Add a pinch of salt. When your baby is about 7 months old add a pinch of hing, some turmeric and a little ghee to this mixture for taste.

At about the same time start giving boiled veggies too.

Hope this helps. My son' s paed has told me to give him everything possible. Try it first, see how the baby reacts and then start giving it in larger quantities.

Hope this helps.

hi,
You can give a whole apple also, i was giving my son from 5 months an apple, peeled cooked in the cooker for 5 min and then pureed, after some time i used to just puree it without boiling the apple.
you can also start with rice and vegetables. At first i used to make a soup with all vegetables, strain it and use the soup for mixing nestum and slowly then you can addrice, dal and make the soup and after a month you can start on with rice and veg for lunch. Regarding water do not worry if your kid wants she will ask on her own and 3-4 spoons is enough.

my son is at present 14 months so i know what you are going through now, if you want further, i will send you all the receipes which i used for my son.

bye ,
take care,
sowdha
