Trying since long:IUI with Metformin

Hi All,
I' m diagnosed with PCOS and is trying to conceive for a while. Tried 5 cycles with Letoval, Foliripe, Fertyl Super etc. Nothing turned effective and my Dr is recommending for IUI. Continuing Metformin.

Pls share your ideas on success rate of IUI and is it too early to start with ?

In the light of your history, IUI seems to be a good option at this stage. Success rates at most centers are about 30 - 35% per attempt. It also depends on your husband' s sperm count & motility.

Hello Angel,

PCOS is fairly common now a days and treatments have worked for people with this complication. Normal rate of success for a cycle is 10 -12 % per cycle provided your husband has good sperm count and motility. Before undergoing any of these treatments make sure you get few tests done like sperm analysis etc. You said that you tried 5 cycles, did your doc monitor the egg development? Has that been an issue? IUI assumes that Egg and sperm are in good shape. I have had experience with these treatments for 8 yrs. Make sure you get all details from the doc before starting any of these treatments. You can wait if you and your husband are fairly young and try few more natural cycles with proper scans and monitoring the growth after validating that there is no issue with sperm count.

You´ re right. In my second month with fertyl super, i had multiple good follicles which were all growing till 15. My Dr said if they all grew well , she would rather do IUI that month.
she´ s thoughtful abt that. She mentioned that my body is not responding to tablets and asked me to move to IUI with Humog injection during FSH. 1 month , i took humog injections and the follicle growths were good.unfortunately, my husband was out of station when i ovulated.

Wondering if IUI will make a difference at all ?

Hello Angel,

Typical follicle size is about 16 - 18 mm. I am not a doctor but as far as my knowledge goes the chances are good if you have size around 18 or so. In my opinion before going for IUI, you should get this problem corrected. Given the right dosage and right medicine, the follicle size can reach 18mm - 20 mm. Without proper follicles chances of successful IUI are slim. Talk to another doctor who can help you fix this problem and then go for IUI. In fact you can go for IUI in any cycle when the growth is good enough, so decision of IUI can be taken for each cycle as you see progress.

Thanks Mohan. I´ m 30 and he´ s 27. we did the required test for him as well and all fine. Yes.. my Dr. monitors the egg development after Day8. With foliripe, I developed only cyst ( 18mm on day 7 and 22 on day8 etc ). With fertyl super, all the 3 cycles, many follies produced , but none grew beyond 14 mm.
