Role of in-laws:Phone calls - Inlaws & Parents

Name: life

Hey Friends,
I am just back from a ladies lunch party and we are 6 ladies in the same apt complex and all six belong to different states in India. Today's topic was phonecalls from inlaws to our parents!! I mean all 6 of us agreed that only our parents should call inlaws and wish them on festival or any other occasion and make social calls and inlaws will never call our parents!!!. Is this happening to any of you??
I mean why this discrimination both their son and DIL's are out in some country cant they atleast make calls to our parents once a while!!!!????

Hi all,
Same thing happened with me after my marriage. My MIL created scenes in marriage and even after that they were expecting that my parents should call them, I told this to my hubby that I dnt like why should my parents call evenrtime ? and your parents will not call ? If my mom dnt call,my MIL says your mother didn't call? I get so angry...
You know One day I got pissed off.I said many bad things about her to my husband (who dnt care about these things) and told him to call his father and tell them I am not happy wiht them..If they are not going to call my dad regularly...I am not willing to keep any relatinships with themm( I said all this as I know my FIL is very understanding but not MIL) ...he understood my anger and said ok ..We will call and after that I keep talking same thing (now reverse from my side) to them did u call my mother ,father (they were expecting your call) ,If they dnt call ,I dnt speak with them on phone, then they will understand i am angry with them..
I am very happy that expressing my anger towards them worked!!!!!

Hi guys,

I am new to this website. But after reading all the posts, i am relieved that i am not the only one suffering because of bad behaviour of in-laws. About phone-calls, i had told my parents from beginning itself, that they don't have to do things because of me. why should girls family should call in-laws? in marrraige husband and wife both r 50-50...so the rules apply to both the parties...

And moreover the rules were made by these boy's family only(LADKEWALE).....
Now i don't give much thought to what my in-laws say or do....

That is the only way we can get peace with ourselves and with hubby!!!!

Subject:  Complaints??!!

This is just out of topic..
Complaints from inlaws to parents about us.. you know how may dad handled this?
Initial days of our marriage was always used to be complaint days from my MIl to dad and my dad got so fed up and finally one day he said: My daughter is very independent and she will do only things which she wants to do and even we could not control her and you are such a wonderful MIL, I hope you succeed in controling her.
thats it no complaints after that!!

Even if they call, they will have long list of complaints,it is better this way.

Agree with Vd - no news is good news.

Hi all, I agree with oh well.

I have told my parents not to call. We are not around, why to have unnecessary tensions.

So no news is good news.

and please answer to your mil, you can call them if you are missing them so much(jokingly).

How dies it matter ? And if it really does ask you parents not to call them. It's a waste of time thinking nd discussing this.

Yes life,

I also have the same scenario. My in-laws never call my parents. My fil has never spoken to my father after our marriage. My hubby never calls my parents and he expects me to talk to his parents every time. In fact in 3 yrs of my marriage I haven't heard my mom saying that your MIL called up. But I always hear my mil telling me that your mother didn't call (as if my mom doesn't have any other work other than calling her and flattering her), at that point I just want to give a piece of my mind to my mil that why can't she call. Is she too superior or she will lose something from her pocket if she calls my parents? But then I just keep quite thinking faltu main kyon lada jaye.

So, I think its taken for granted by husband's parents that they are superior and girl's parents should always give in. I have stopped discussing these matters with my hubby too and there's no point of expecting that my in-laws will call my parents. Now even if my parents don't call them and my mil says I just don't give any response.

My parents always call my in-laws on festivals etc. but I won't mind if they stop eventually, just by looking at my in-laws behavior.

I am eager to hear what other ladies have to say regarding this situation.

How to deal with this?
I feel that my husbands parents are using their son. My husband is from India and I am from the USA. He obtained his greencard and citizenship through me after coming here. He is a physician and obtained his residency training. I worked to earn for our family for two years until he got his job. Then he applied for his parents to visit us on a visiting visa. RE:self centered inlaws
I agree they have completely double standards as I recently found out. I saw my husbands childhood photos when he was young. His parents claim they sacrificed everything for their kids and lived poor and behave like martyr parents. Got treated as free domestic servant. But the photos showed them dressed like Bollywood stars with watches and jewellery enjoying their life. O... - Tina [View Message]
