I had posted many messages here regarding my son' s problem with reflux and vomitting before. Nowadays i am seeing many messages related to this and people telling same kind of problems in this board and also in eating disorders topic in parents of preschoolers board. I would like to form a group of mothers whose kids had this problem and how they overcome this problem. What ideas they tried and worked out. Which are not worked out etc.. Any therapist or doctors they saw and how long we need to give pureed food.
My son' s details are below.
My Kid is 22 months old.He was premature born 35th week and his birth weight was 2.1 kg, Current weight is 10 kg. He was gaining weight well till he was 6 month old then started vomitting from 7th month. He will have milk or cerelac and starts vomitting the whole. Everything will come out. Slowly he had lot of hiccups then vomitting continued and even increased with semi solid feedings. Each time he vomits i will feed him again and he will refuse and finally have a little. Nowadays he almost stopped vomitting on pureed food (of cerelac consistency) but he vomits if u try to give him solid food , biscuits , chips , anything not pureed in mixie. Till now i am grinding food in Mixie and giving him. I tried having solid particles in the food like mashed rice. But he is vomitting every time i try this. He want' s to have finger food like adults, but even he bites biscuit and don' t know how to swallow and vomits it out whatever he had previously also. So i am afraid to give him anything solid. He is very active otherwise and he has achieved other mile stones also in time. And he is extremely sensitive about food smell. He does not like smell of Raddish, Papaya etc.. there are many. He will eat only bland food like idly, rice etc..he can not accept new food.
I consulted nmany doctors regarding vomitting they say that pediatric GERD and he has to outgrow by himself. Regarding solid food they say keep trying and give him fatty foods like cheese. I don' t know how to give him cheese and ghee. He does not like that and vomits. Is there anything be done for his problem. Please advice ... ?
Please share your experiences and provide each and every bit of advice which will be useful for lot of other moms who suffer like this.
Thanks

Rita replied. i had posted this in another board. But nw i found that a few of u have faced similar problem too. Do let me know if u hv any advice.
I am extremely disturbed with this. My baby girl is 11 months old. She had cough & cold at 8 months and was also introduced on formula milk from exclusive breastmilk at the same time.
She started vomitting her milk from then onwards. Her stools are solid. Initially we thought it was the cough but vomitting continued even when she got better in a few days. She was born full term with 3.6 kgs weight and now she is only 7.3 kgs at 11 months.
She has been vomitting since then everyday atleast twice a day only her milk feed and sometimes her solid feed (if its liquidy).
We have changed her formula milk but no use.
Doc introduced soya milk. But forceful vomitting continues as soon as she finishes her milk.
Quantity of milk she has is also less: 180ml per feed - 3 feeds in a day (out of which 2 are vomitted) intead of 240 ml 4 times a day.
Doc suspected it could be pyloric stenosis, where the stomach to intestine passage is blocked, but ultrasound shows everything internally is ok. But she continues to vomit.
With all the regular twice a day vomitting since October, her weight is also not increasing for a while now.
Doc says something in the environment may not be suiting her. It cud be some allergy. Either milk or
dustmites or may be the water is not suiting her or
its just reflux. Doc hopes it to get better with time.
She is currently being given antihistamine which has to be continued for a while for the allergy. No side effects except increase in appetite. Doc says that many babies will grow out of the allergy after a while
say about 1 year old or so.
There should not be any milk in her diet in any form. So, no cow' s milk(formula), yoghurt, cheese, or cereal
(with milk). (cereals without added milk is ok).
She is on soya milk diet totally and solids like
khichri etc will continue.
The doc also plans to try pediasure (if it suits her)
as soon as she is 1 to catch up on her weight.
Hoping that the problem gets sorted soon. She is
otherwise very active.
If anyone has faced a similar problem or can help in anyway, would be really grateful.
Thanks in advance.
Dimple replied. Hi All,
my daughter is 14.5 month old by now having same eating problem(not chewing food). Someone said as I started with cerelac form now she is use to that form and she will not chew easily. I had continued this cerelac form till 10months and then when I started solid even biscuits she is not chewing and same fear of vomit I am not able to give her solid now. Now my daughter started showing \" oh god NO\" sign as soon as I come with bowl and spoon towards her for feeding pureed form. I and my hubby r having hard time everyday to search new tricks to distract her and feed her. Her nagging is so much towards food time that my hubby has to be at her meal time to distract her. Outings r tough too. If we go out also she makes so much scene while eating and all ppl keep looking at us and we try to come back before her meal time and for us outing cannot be more then 1 or max 2 continuous hrs. For milk also she doesnt drink through bottle as whole. my best luck she drinks half milk through bottle and rest I spoon feed her. I am so scared on sippy cup as I believe she will definately not drink. She was late on her sitting and walking milestone. My relatives say I dont keep her on her own and be over protected thats why she is late learning. docs say its ok if she learned late sitting and walking(started sitting by 9month, crawling by 11month and started walking recently only) her birth weight was 3.1kgs. at 5month her weight was 6.8kgs, at 10month her weight was 7.5kgs and last measured at 13months her weight was 8.3kgs.
Eating Problems, I dont know ur name but if u r making such group and any tricks you get from anywhere please please do let me also know. I am not visiting this site so frequently. But I will try to visit this site or any group form by you on such problems atleast twice a week.
Smita, I have not understood ur help. Could you please elaborates more on this?

I know its an absolutely miserably awful thing to happen.
My daughter used to do it or still does until sometime back.
Let me re- assure you by saying that, kids are very smart and they know they can play mind-games with you and it becomes a habit.. so much so that when they see food they want to do things like coughing or whatever as they dont' t want to eat.
Sometimes as brutel as it may sound, just leave him alone, if he does not want to eat after you offer something, try distraction, and if it doesnt work, leave him alone... how long will he stay hungry, he' s old enough to say \" mama gimme mummum or sometghing to that effect\" and also sometimes thay take it from the parents sometimes if we are anxious about something, they are more likely to feel the same.
Like you said he likes some specific foods, offer those until such time that he forgets that he has the power to throw up as he please, take it from experience if you have a week without a single throwup, its more likely he wont throw up.
One more thing is, by now you know how much he really can eat as opposed how much you would want him to eat, give him only that much that he can handle, give him an opportunity to ask you for food, by giving him less food but increasing its frequency, soups or porridge or anything he takes.
If you give him an oppourtinity to get hungry may be he will be in a mood to ask for variety.
I' m saying this all from my experience
and if it can work for my daughter i know this can work for most babies.
i know its an extremely harrowing experience, but it will pass!!
Lots of luck!
