Hello Moms,

My baby is nine months old. He had been having good bowel movements. But for the past three to four weeks his stool is hard.Its like a lump. He is on solid diet but there is nothing that he is allergic too. At times his stool is absoultely normal. I am totally puzzles as to what is it that is not suiting him. Earlier I was giving him Ceralac now I have changed to Nestum. I give him khichri in the afternoon and daliya in the night. I give him mousmi juice. Can someone pls advise if I going wrong somewhere in my diet.

I look forward to your valuable suggestions.

Hi,

You should try giving him water. It appears the switch from Cerelac to Nestum can be a cause. Why did you switch brands? Was there any specific reason? Also, do not fret if he does not cry. If he is comfortable passing hard stools, it is just an aspect of growing up. Don' t worry too much.

Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]

You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.

Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
