Problems in School:My son won't listen in school
2002-03-14
Name: Gail Sargent

My 8 year old son will not listen and focus in school. It also has become a problem in his after school program. When he does focus his work is great. It's just getting him to do that. He needs to pay more attention on what he is doing and not what the other children are doing. Simply stated, he does not know how to mind his own business. Will he eventually grow out of it and does this come with maturity. He almost got suspended from school and his after school program. He wants to play all the time. Anyone with a similar problem?

are both his parents working then he feel lack of attention from you. but it is natural for kids to get distracted. keep your cool. after school dont tell him to do his school work. you talk to his teachers about it. so for sometime just allow him to play as much as he wants. dont even ask him to eat his lunch or dinner. as he is a 8 years old once he realises you are not talking to him or asking him anything then he will come to you. then explain to him about paying attention. then slowly he will change his behaviour. so all the best.

It is very natural and a known fact that kids have these major mood swings, I think sometimes, the kid needs to be explained very cooly and calmly that what things are right and what are wrong, we end up always scolding them which indirectly makes them crave to do the unwanted things, I think the best solution is to give him incentives for paying attention at school or explaining him in a very loving manner. In each parents life, this is one of the growing pain, so u are not the only one and try dealing with him in this manner. Good Luck!
