A 4-Month-Old Baby's Development (Week 14)

A 14 weeks old baby may show ample of developments. Learn more about the kind of growth milestones a baby may achieve by the completion of 14 weeks of her development.

It is already week 14 – this is the time when your baby is improving her sense of touch, vision and so many other feelings. Also this is the time when your baby is trying her best to crawl, scoot and wiggle. Soon your baby will start wandering all across the room. This is an essential time to nurture your baby with new feeling of senses, such as touch and vision and also help her achieve new movements.

Sense of Touch

Touch is an essential component of growth and development, and believe it or not, babies love to be touched, not by everyone though. You can help increase your bonding with your baby by making skin-to-skin contact – it will soothe your baby when she feels irritated and it will comfort her when she is upset. So many emotions can be nurtured by just your touch. Also, nurture your baby’s sense of touch more by allowing her to play with materials of different texture – terry, silk, felt, rough, smooth, etc.

Is Your Baby Rolling Now?

Your baby will try her best to roll now. It may not have happened yet, but if you dive in to teach your baby how to do it, it will mean big changes. Many babies start rolling now. Some cute infants will keep rolling in one direction and travel from one corner of the room to the other. Rolling will make your baby’s bodies and joints stronger, so give your baby plenty of floor time. Lay down a nice big blanket on the floor to keep the floor surfaces soft and smooth and allow your baby to be there and play on her own.

Other New Movements

New movements are not only restricted to rolling. Your baby wants to experience now more what all she can do with her arms and legs that are getting stronger every day. They would try to learn to scoot and wiggle restlessly. Not all babies can scoot and wiggle now, but many can start these movements earlier in their life, maybe in week 14 already. Always clap and cheer to celebrate their small achievements. Soon you will see your baby crawling, walking, and then running away – just wait for few more weeks.

Language Development

You have to keep fostering language development in your babies – do not think that they do not understand what you are saying at all. They tend to listen to you more carefully when you read books and stories to them. Always enact your stories; use hands and mouth to show motions – this keeps your kids engaged as they get more excited when you incorporate movement to your stories.

More Playtimes

The time between 3-4 months is a great time for babies to develop their sense quickly. A stimulating environment that includes a lot of playtime is mandatory to bring the positive changes in your babies. Play with your kids more. Develop baby bond more. Observe your infants closely. Take a breaktime if they get over-stimulated. Give your babies safe toys as now they like to push everything into their mouth, so check for choking hazards and check for sharp corners before allowing your babies to play with their new toys.

Safety Tips

You will not know when your baby would start crawling all of a sudden, so it is better to keep your surroundings safe and ready for your piece of joy. Keep all medicines out of reach, keep non-slip pads under your rugs, secure any electrical cords from your baby’s playzone, put safety gates for the tops and bottoms of your stairs, and of course, keep a first-aid kit readily available all the time.

Providing right kind of stimulation can help your baby to achieve the growth milestones at a faster pace. Spending good amount of time playing and talking to her can help a lot in boosting her growth and development.

What kind of developments can be observed in a 3-month-old baby? How to boost development of a 3-month-old baby? What kind of safety precaution should be taken? Discuss here.
