5 Things All New Fathers Must Learn

Fathers can play an important role to ensure speedy recovery of mothers from the rigours of labour and delivery. Have a quick look at the 5 important things all new fathers must know.

Enjoying fatherhood is not a smooth going process rather dads must be aware of certain important facts even before the baby is born. The process of becoming a dad starts much before the child birth. New dads may find that their world gets changed suddenly and it could be difficult for them to cope with these changes. It is important for would-be dads and new dads to know about 5 most important things that are must for them and will help them to enjoy their fatherhood.

1. Taking Care of the Partner

New dads must understand that their responsibility towards their partners do not end with the birth of the child. Just like the new dads, lives of new moms also undergo several changes in terms of physical and mental health both.

Many new moms experience post-partum symptoms and new dads have the responsibility to take care of their partners during this phase. New mothers must get the required nutrients as babies breast feed during the first six months so new dads must take care about the diet of their partners. They must also ensure their partners get enough sleep.

2. Planning Budget In Advance

When a baby is born in the family, there are definitely many expenses associated with it and new dads may find it difficult to handle this sudden increase in the budget. But there is nothing to worry if dads start planning their budget few months before the child is born. This will definitely help them to handle the financial requirements after the child is born.

May be the new dads have to sacrifice some of their personal expenses like buying their favourite deodorant, buying an expensive shirt etc but earlier they understand this is better for them.

3. Social Life Will Not Halt

Many new dads feel that their social lives would be put to an end as soon as the baby is born. They think that they along with their partners will have their lives revolving around the baby and will not get enough space for themselves.

New dads must understand that babies are portable and if they are fed in time and basic healthcare regimen of the babies is followed regularly, dads can enjoy small outings with their partners and even with their friends. Dads may not have the same social life like the one they enjoyed before the child birth and they should accept it.

4. Dads Can Still Have Their Sleep

New dads are always apprehensive about not having enough sleep after the baby comes home. New fathers may not have uninterrupted sleeping time after the baby is born but they can always plan something for it. New dads and moms can take turns at night and that will ensure the baby is taken care of and each one get rest and sleep though in turns. It is true that life will not remain the same after the baby is born but the earlier new parents get adjusted to it is better for them and the baby too.

5. Lending the Helping Hand

No other person than the new dads could lend their helping hands to the new moms. New dads should help their partners in breastfeeding, changing the baby’s diaper, making the baby sleep and taking him or her for a short walk. New fathers must also help their partners in their household chores so that mothers can get enough time to look after their children.

New dads need not feel scary when they have their new born with them. Coping up the first few months and thereafter with the child is an experience in its own. Fatherhood brings in joy with it but new father must also learn how to take up this new responsibility.

What should new fathers know? How can new fathers help their partner to recover early from the stress caused during labour? What can new fathers do to provide mental support to their parents? Discuss here.
