How to Motivate a Preschooler to Write

How to Motivate a Preschooler to Write
Writing is an art that needs motivation and if you make writing a fun activity, then preschoolers will get interested in writing. Read on about the ways that can help you spark your child’s interest in writing.

Many parents worry how they can motivate their children to write. Well, there are ways that can help you spark your child’s interest in writing right from the time he or she is a preschooler and you can start this at home with engaging and fun activities.
Children bubble over with ideas, plots and even jokes. However, they do not have the ability or patience to capture these ideas on paper. After some time they may freeze up and forget about those ideas even. Also, one of the facts is that some preschoolers love to scribble and colour while some run away with the idea of sitting and colouring or drawing.
Writing is an activity that requires coordination and concentration which normally the preschoolers lack. On the other hand it is very important because it involves smaller muscle movements and hence is very important for the proper development of fine motor skills. No matter whether your child needs motivation or readily spends time scribbling and colouring, the ideas mentioned here will surely help boost him up.

Use Your Creativity

Many workbooks that are available in the market are used by most of the parents and they make their children trace letters repeatedly from that book by sitting quietly on a chair. Well, children find this very boring and start distaste for reading and writing right from that time. You can make use of a handful of flour and spread it on the kitchen platform or use shaving foam to make letters with the help of fingers. Use your creativity and teach your child to write while having fun.

Provide Interesting Writing Materials

By providing interesting materials for writing you can make the entire writing process automatically motivating. It is better you provide him or her with plain paper or a sketch pad to start with. Also, if you stay away from pencil for some time, it will be good. Young children appreciate colourful writing and they will frequently change colours which will make them get interested in writing.
When providing these materials you must be careful and should not overwhelm your child by providing lots of materials to write with. Make sure that the materials that you provide are child safe.

Remember your Main Objective

Since you are helping your child develop an interest in writing, do not go for perfection in the beginning. Make the writing time and activity full of fun. You can draw something for him or her so that he or she tries to imitate drawing it. Let your child gain the confidence that he or she can write. Focus on what he or she has done.

Understand the Practical Difficulties of Beginners

Always keep in mind that your child is just a preschooler. He or she will start with scribbling and work on basic shapes and pictures first. You will have to give him or her some time and then try to form letters within the scribbles.

Schedule Writing Sessions

Writing is just like reading, the more you do it, the more your child will love to do it himself. So, initially you will have to take the initiative and it is good to fix a schedule that you should follow for sure.

Encourage Your Child

Appreciate whatever your child does. Give him or her star if he or she writes perfectly. Show interest in anything he or she tries and also celebrate his or her success.
Every kid is different. So, do not force him or her and motivate your child to write on anything while having fun.

How can preschoolers develop interest in writing? How to make writing a fun activity for preschoolers? What can parents do to motivate preschoolers to write? Discuss here.

It is very important to start early to motivate preschoolers to write otherwise they would not be able to develop interest for writing.
