Teething period is a time of discomfort for both toddlers and the parents as the parents have to deal with teething discomfort in their little ones. Helps ease teething discomfort in toddlers with these tips.

Give Something to Chew On

Give your child something cold and firm to chew on. The coldness numbs the gums and the hard surface provides relief. Avoid giving the pacifier to your baby. You can offer water-filled teethers that are refrigerated for some time. Make sure that the teethers that you are using meet all the safety standards.

Give Cold Washcloth

Since cold helps get relief from pain to adults, a cold washcloth will help ease the teething pain in toddler. Your child can suck the refrigerated washcloth and get some relief. You can soak the washcloth in diluted fruit juice so that your child likes sucking it as well.

Avoid Teething Medicines

Experts are of the opinion that you should avoid the teething medicines that can be applied on the gums because they would numb your little one’s gums and she might bite his tongue also.

Spend Some More Time with Her

If her sleep gets disrupted due to teething discomfort, try to soothe her by offering a back rub or soothing song. You can also bring your child close to you so that she feels better. Irritability can be treated by offering fun distractions to your child. You might have to spend some extra time with her so that her mind gets diverted and entertained during these tough days.

Clean the Drool

Although, cleaning the drool may not reduce the pain and discomfort caused due to teething you must clean it to avoid other discomforts. Excessive drooling is caused due to teething which may further lead to skin infection and it also looks very unhygienic. Therefore, it is a must to keep the drool wiping-off from your child’s face.

Other Tips to Ease Teething Discomfort

•  Offer teething toys that can be chilled so that your child feels better. You can also rub her gums with clean finger as this will soothe the irritability.

•  Chilled carrot or teething biscuit can also help a lot.

•  If your child refuses to eat anything or her appetite has decreased, you can offer cool and soft food so that she eats and gets some relief also.
