Skin Care

Parents use different products for their baby. There are many products available in markets today to pamper the baby. Know about the tips and uses of baby oil and baby powder.

What are the benefits of baby powder or baby oil?

There are many products to make your baby feel extra good after a bath. During the summer, there's nothing better than patting some baby powder or cornstarch on your baby to keep her cool and comfortable. Another thing you can do for your baby is give her a massage. Slowly and gently rub baby lotion or oil all over her body and make her feel relaxed. This is a nice way of continuing to develop the growing bond between you and your baby.

Are there any tips for using baby powder?

You should be careful that you do not create a cloud of powder, because it can cause her to choke. Also be sure to sprinkle the powder first into your hand and then on the baby.
It is also important you do not let the powder cake in the cracks, crevices and folds of the newborn because it could lead to skin infection and significant irritation for the baby.

How to take good care of baby’s skin?

Since you might be eager to know about a skin care routine that you must follow to ensure healthy skin for your little one, read along.

Protect from sun

Babies who are less than 6 months old must be protected from the sun. If you are taking her out, make sure to use protective clothing and may be use a protective hat to block the harmful UVA and UVB rays, Dress her in light shades, if it is too hot. There are sunscreens available for babies too these days. You may consult with your doctor while choosing a suitable brand.

Protect from insect bites

The right kind of clothing shall protect your little one from insectbites. Insect repellents recommended by your doctor can be used. The repellent can be spread on the hands and then rubbed all over the body. Once you are home, do wash off of the creams.

Bathing everyday may not be necessary

Your baby has a very tender skin and too much of rubbing can make it dry. However, this does not mean you can undermine the importance of cleanliness and hygiene in your little one. Soaps and shampoos that you use must be mild enough and not harsh on the soft skin. The daily routine care shall include sponge bath with particular attention on the folded parts, mouth, and diaper areas. You can bathe your baby alternate days during winters to prevent dry skin and also prevent her from catching cold.

Washing clothes of your little one

Detergents that you use to wash clothes of your new born must be soft. Do not use the regular ones that can cause rashes and irritations on the tender skin. There are sensitive soaps available for this purpose that ensures all skin problems are kept at bay.
Using the right soap, shampoo, body oil and lotion is not all you can do to ensure healthy and glowing skin. You must also ensure she is well fed. You need not complicate this whole baby skin care process. Also, you need to stop any practice that might be causing irritations and rashes on her tender skin. All you need to do is apply common sense while taking care of her skin. You will be making mistake thinking only fancy products shall make her beautiful. The fact is you need the minimum products to keep her naturally glowing skin healthy.

Acne in babies

It is common for babies to suffer from acnes just like the teenagers. This is a result of exposure to your hormones while in the womb. The trapped oil in skin-pore results in infection. You need not worry much about them, as they shall be gone with time. Proper skin care and hygiene practices shall help you keep away such reoccurrences.

How to buy baby products?

  1. You must check the labels carefully before shopping.
  2. It is better to avoid the products that come with phthalates, dyes, perfumes and parabens. These are known to increase chances of irritation and rashes in skin.
  3. After you buy new clothes, bedding or toys for your little one, do ensure to wash them thoroughly before giving them to her.
  4. Look for natural or organic products to keep at bay the chances of skin problems.
So, for any further queries and questions, you can get in touch with the paediatrician. He shall be the right person to guide you through the process.
