Common Questions Kids Ask and How to Answer Them?

Common Questions Kids Ask and How to Answer Them?

Sometimes kids may ask questions to parents that they may not be able to answer. But parents must deal with this situation patiently and answer their questions without creating and confusion. Here are some common questions kids ask and some tips for answering such questions.
Kids have the habit of wanting an answer for everything they see. The constant Why? For every little thing drives parents mad. But it is better to just give a clear answer to that question straight away, than to give an ambiguous answer that just heightens their curiosity. It is true that some questions they ask just make the parents uncomfortable. But the best way to tackle these questions is to be as honest as you can be to them.
Here are five common questions that every child asks their parents and some tips as to how you being a parent should answer these questions without building their curiosity.

1. Why are you two yelling at each other?

Children have the habit of idolizing their mother or father. So whenever the parents start fighting with each other no matter how petty or serious the issue is, the children start feeling insecure. Therefore, they start asking questions and want to know the cause of it. You should never react impulsively or lash out at your child and tell them to go away. You should stop your fight immediately and talk to your kids. You should explain that when you love someone you tend to scold them or point out their mistakes and that there is no need to worry about it. Once the child is reassured the questions stop immediately. Make sure that you never fight with your spouse in front of your children again.

2. Why do they get the toy and I don’t?

This is a very common issue with kids. They want everything that their friends have. You should answer this question by telling them that they would have to prove themselves worthy of the toy to get it. If they behave well, just the way you want them to; give it to them as a reward. This helps them to learn how to earn their rewards.

3. What happens when we die?

This is a question that every child is faced with. They have no idea about where their grandparents disappear after their death. While some times you can just end the discussion by saying ‘They go back to God’, at other times when they are truly persistent explain it to them in the scientific way. Tell them that the heart stops and the oxygen do not go into the lungs. This will at least give them a definitive idea of how death is. You could also go on to give some of those spiritual explanations. But in the end, make sure that they have understood it in simple clear terms.

4. Who do you love more?

This a common question asked by all those kids who have siblings. A parent loves all of his or her children equally. But never let your kids have any misunderstanding that you love his or her sibling more. You should treat all of them equally at all times. As for the answer to this question, tell them that you love all of them equally. They should know that they are all loved equally. No extra favours for anyone.

5. Can I stay up as late as you do?

Kids usually do not want to sleep early and want to stay up as long as their parents are awake. So when they ask you this question do not say “No” right away. Sit them down and make them understand that staying up late would harm them. They would fall sick and would not be able to go to school or meet their friends. When they realize the importance of sleeping early, they are bound to listen to you and stop asking questions.
So answer the questions honestly and tactfully and see how the questions decrease day by day!
