Tips for Dads to Plan Vacations

Are you dad and looking to plan a wonderful vacation with your family? Here are some tips for planning a wonderful and a memorable vacation.
It may be mom who is the heart of the house but when it comes to planning vacations the kids always look up to dad. If you are a dad then this is one area that you should completely take charge of as there is no better gift that you can buy your children than the gift of your time especially when it is given under the lovely cloak of a vacation. However, there is a lot of planning and attention to detail that goes into making up the perfect vacation as there are a number of things that could go wrong. Here are a few tips for planning a memorable vacation with your children.

Invite Suggestions from Everybody

The vacation is a family outing so it is important that the wishes and preferences of all family members should be factored in. Of course not every person is going to get what he or she wants but at least asking for suggestions will make everyone feel involved and happy. If you have more than 3 kids then plan one activity each day according to the preference of one kid and then so on. Ask your wife about what she wants to do on the vacation and incorporate her ideas too. Ideally there should be a vacation discussion session where you take in ideas from everybody prior to actually finalising the vacation plan.

Do Not Over Crowd the Activity Plan

As a dad you must already be chalking out whatever activities you think will appeal to your kids during vacation time. However, it is important to remember especially when your children are small that they will not have the same level of stamina as adults. Packing in too many activities in one day will simply tire out your kids and this will spoil the entire point of the vacation. It is advisable to only plan one major activity per day and then leave one day in between for spontaneous fun and relaxation. Sometimes dads pack in too many activities in a single vacation and the family is made to feel as if they are participating in some kind of race.

Pack Right Kind of Clothes and Products

Make sure that you find out about the climate of the place that you are visiting. Carry clothes which will be suitable for such climate. Wearing right kind of clothes can help to prevent discomfort. If it is too hot also carry a sunscreen. Do not forget to carry a mosquito repellent cream which is prescribed by your doctor, no matter where you are going.

Expect Problems and Be Prepared For Them

Though you are sure to have a lot of fun on the family vacation there are chances for a few problems to crop up as well. One of your kids could get fever or suffer from digestion problems or get sunburns. Something else can go wrong too and it is important to do emergency planning. Carry a medical kit including essential drugs, band aid, antiseptic etc. Get to know the number of doctor on call, emergency services etc beforehand you actually arrive at the vacation destination. Travelling with kids to an unknown place will require you to do some amount of emergency planning.
In case your kids misbehave, are disobedient or engage in cat fights with each other remember not to get too upset. Gently make them understand that vacations are meant to be enjoyed together harmoniously.

Do Not Work On Vacation

It is obvious that you will have a lot of work pressure in your daily life. A vacation with your kids however, is a way to take your mind off work and relax. The vacation is not a place where you should keep working ad hoc on your laptop or tablet. Minimise calls from work too by informing everybody that you are off on a vacation. Nothing will make your family feel better than if they have your undivided attention.
Now that you know how to plan your perfect vacation make sure that you have a lot of fun doing so.

How can dads plan a vacation for children? What kind of preparations are needed while travelling with children? Which things should be carried while going on a vacation with children? Discuss here.
