Tips for Spending Quality Time with Children

There are many activities which dads can carry out with their children in order to spend quality time with them. Read on to find about some fruitful activities for spending quality time with children.
Parenting is a tough job and contrary to whatever you are going to read or be advised about it, it stands true that no amount of virtual learning can fully prepare you for the delights and demands of this beautiful relationship. It is not going to be easy to perfectly balance the demands of your work life, social commitments and parenting too but what you must focus on is to spend quality time with your kids. Child psychologists say that there is a difference between just spending time and spending quality time and the latter is a necessity if you really want to be a part of your children’s growing up process.

Go On Walks Together

Going on a walk together with your kids can give you all some valuable “us” time. If you are working full time then probably the only time you can manage a daily walk is in the late evening. Make sure that you utilize some of the precious time left for you once you return home from work in going for a leisurely walk with your children. Avoid watching the T.V or getting engaged in some other kind of work during this time. Use the walk as a pretext to really know how your kids spent the day and what made them happy. Once you get used to this routine this will be something that all of you look forward to every day.

Organise a Pizza Night

This is going to work only if your kids are fans of Pizza like most other children. If not then you can easily substitute Pizza night for Chinese takeaway night or Barbecue night. Make the occasion really special by making this night a weekly event where you and your kids are dressed in your craziest clothes and can do fun stuff together like watching DVDS, dancing to tracks and eating away to glory. The holiday like spirit of the night will automatically motivate your children to open up more and talk their heart out to you. The fun is multiplied if you actually try and cook something special with your kids. The sense of responsibility and sense of involvement which your kids are going to feel will make a lot of difference.

Do Home Improvement Projects

Cement the bond between your kids and your home by making them feel that they can contribute in a positive way to the maintenance of the home that you share together. Try painting a fence together or try dusting the house with your kids. While they may be a little clumsy at first, they are surely going to learn fast. So, doing home chores or participating in home improvement projects will serve a dual purpose. They are going to become more responsible and you will also get to spend some precious quality time with them.
Make sure you acknowledge the good work that your kids did at the end of the day and thank them sincerely as kids love being appreciated.

Play Games with Your Kids

Learn to play some all out childish games with your kids like hide and seek, pin the tail on the monkey etc. This will make your kids regard you as a fun playmate and consequently they will open up more with you. If you are buying video games for your kids then take some time off to actually learn the game so that you can play it with your kids. Remember to stop acting like an adult all the time and actually go out making some really spontaneous moves. The fun and contentment on your kid’s faces will be your biggest reward.

Read to Them

Reading to children is also one of the great ways to spend quality time with them. You can read a story book, a general knowledge book or even a newspaper to them. Reading aloud to children can help to boost their general knowledge and also help them imbibe the habit of reading.
Just do not stop yourself from spending quality time with your kids. No matter how much busy you are, set aside sometime from your busy schedule for your children. Remember this time is not going to come back once your kids grow-up. So, make sure that you spend as much time with your kids as much you can.
