1. Every child with attention deficit disorder is hyperactive
This is not true. Some children with ADD are inattentive and hyperactive and they appear to be dreamy and unenthusiastic.

It is not that kids with ADHD never pay attention because they are seen concentrating on activities they like.

3. Kids suffering with ADHD have control on their behaviour
Children with ADHD may appear to be good but disobedient, but this does not mean that they are doing everything in purpose.

4. ADHD gets cured with time
ADHD gets carried on to adulthood. So, it is advisable not to wait because timely medical attention would help minimize the symptoms in your child.

5. Medication is the best remedy
Even though medicines are prescribed for attention deficit disorder, behaviour therapy, proper nutrition, right amount of attention, support at home and school, exercise and education also make huge difference.

  1. Kids with the disorder are self-focused – This is one of the most common signs where the child is incapable of recognizing other person’s needs and desires.
  2. They are unable to control their emotions – Children suffering from attention deficit disorder find it difficult to keep their emotions in check.
  3. They cannot sit still – Fidgetiness is quite common in such kids. They run around, squirm in their chair or fidget when forced to sit.
  4. They have problem finishing the tasks – These children show interest in many things, but do not finish one on time.
  5. Lack focus – Children with attention deficit disorder lack focus even if someone is talking directly to her.
  6. Day dreaming – One of the contrast sign of ADD is that these children become quieter and less interactive.
  7. Making careless mistakes – These children cannot follow instructions especially those which require proper planning and execution.
All children exhibit one or more symptoms at some point. You should be alarmed only if you see these signs occurring frequently and if these are affecting your child’s performance in school. The most important thing is that ADD is treatable. So, if your child suffers from this, consult the doctor and determine the best course of action for your child in time.
